About this listen

When she gains control of his family fortune, it's love at first fight.

Stunning, stubborn, and independent, Philadelphia Fox lost her best friend because of the fabulously rich and powerful Lightfoot family of Washington state. Now she's got her friend's controlling shares in Lightfoot Industries—an inheritance that brings Nick, the family's prodigal and supremely attractive son, knocking at her door.

An unexpected and irrepressible spark between them blazes into extraordinary passion, and Phila—historically unlucky in love—finds the deepest satisfaction she has ever known. But behind Nick's gray eyes lurks a disturbing enigma—and Phila must make the choice of her life. Trusting Nick may come with quite a price—but giving in to his strong, sensual seduction is a golden chance that may never come again.

Family Touch

The ins and outs of a pieced together family. Love and trust as intangible pieces of such a family and how the differences come together to strengthen the whole all with the aid of one small dynamo willing to put her trust to the final test.
I loved this book and am still awed by how much.

Oldie but goodie

This was first published in 1990 and I read it then. It was like listening to an old friend. I didn't care for the narrator who enunciated every word slowly. She was very formal.

This is part of Jayne Ann Krentz's early tough-guy males genre.

Authors are heavily influenced by what their publisher believe will sell. For example, older-style Harlequin and Silhouette romances were expected to closely conform to a genre/type. No long chapters of sorrowful personal introspection or philosophy, just boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finally gets the girl.

This one is a strongwilled businessman, the woman he's attracted to is also strongminded but more socially conscious, more concerned about other people outside his particular successful lifestyle. It's an enjoyable read!

Nice story but hurt by narrator

The Narrator spoke in clipped sentences. It was distracting and took away from the story.

A book to be read not listened to

Somehow the narrator did not fit the book/story.
The characters were not hum drum, but the narrator was.

Not a new Jayne Ann Krentz title

I thought this was a new book based on the release date, but the novel was originally published in 1990 and like most of JAK's works from that period, this wasn't my favourite.
All characters, good and bad, are walking stereotypes. The main female lead puts up with being manhandled, stripped, interrogated, and bossed around without raising any serious objections. She talks like a bad cliche of an activist. The male lead is manipulative, overbearing and ice cold. There is no solid foundation for romance there. I gave up half way through and will be returning this one.

Terrible narrator

I just couldn’t listen to this narrator another minute. So awful I hope I can return it.
