About this listen

Expert mountain climber Jayden Harris has the world at her feet until an avalanche at Everest base camp sweeps it all out from under her. She wants nothing more to do with the mountains, and turns her back on it all.

Rhian Phillips is a successful London marketing executive who has the chance of a lifetime fall in her lap. She’s sent to produce a reality TV series on competitive climbers, while showcasing the stunning beauty of a Patagonian glacier and the Cerro Fitz Roy range.

An accident brings Jayden and Rhian together, and outside pressures keep them at each other’s sides. When you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place eventually something has to give. The one thing they never counted on was them both wanting to stay together.

A lesbian romance about pushing onwards and defying expectations.

Marvelous author and performance.

The story of a heart broken on Everest and a chance of healing in Patagonia. Jaden lost her partner on Everest and ran from the mountains vowing to never return. Then her sister is hurt in a fall into a crevasse and Jaden is forced to replace her on a reality show. Riley is running the marketing and business side job operations. A romance and adventure story. Recommended.

“Rock and a Hard Place” by Andrea Bramhall, narrated by Nicola Victoria Vincent

Andrea Bramhall is a new author to me. I’m really glad I found her! I loved everything about this book. The storyline is interesting as hell, the characters are well developed and Bramhall has a gift for describing scenery, action sequences, emotions, well, everything actually!

Rhian Phillips is a marketing executive who gets the chance to produce a reality TV series on competitive climbing. Expert mountain climber Jayden Harris has backed away from anything mountain related after a horrible accident claims the life of her girlfriend and numerous other climbers. The two are thrust together due to unforeseen circumstances. A tentative friendship eventually turns into more.

There’s a lot going on so you definitely won’t get bored. And you can’t beat the background of the beautiful mountains and glaciers of Patagonia!

The lovely voice of Nicola Victoria Vincent makes the whole experience even better! This book is fantastic!

Slow start

This book had a really slow start and didn’t have me hooked from the beginning, but then I loved the story and didn’t want it to stop. Good listen .

Hard to put down

The narrator did a great job with this book. It was detailed and informative even though I know nothing about climbing. The characters and story were well developed.

Rock climbing, reality TV, and fauxmance

I greatly enjoyed this book - it had adventure/danger (serious rock climbing), a reality tv show, a fauxmance, and great characters.

The prologue sets up the major issues Jayden will spend the book trying to get over - an avalanche at Everest base camp causes great destruction and personal trauma. Rhian is skating by doing marketing at her step-mother's firm when, for some reason, they are hired to produce a reality tv show about rock climbing in Patagonia. They don't get along, then they do, then Jayden starts kind of an accidental fauxmance, and it progresses from there.

The character development was really good. I genuinely liked the main characters and the supporting cast as well. Their motivations were pretty clear and even the miscommunication (something I generally don't like, although I'm not sure I've ever read a fauxmance without misunderstanding) was understandable. I really like Nicola Victoria Vincent for British narration, but she seemed to have a harder time with some of the other accents needed in this book. This was my first Bramhall book and it won't be my last.

More like a 4.5... still, very good!

I really enjoyed this audio book. I loved the narration, the storyline, the dialogue, the fact that it turned into a romantic, icy, amazing race, and I really am a sucker for the stories where two people pretend to be dating then fall in love anyway... my only real issue was the abrupt ending. I was listening to it, thinking there was probably another 5 minutes, and she said "The End." Anyway, great listen!
