About this listen

Left widowed and penniless after a loveless arranged marriage, Jillian reluctantly accepts the job of "refining" a Scottish Highlander who's inherited an English title. The man infuriates and intrigues her, as well as shakes her resolve to never again let a man close.

Ian MacLeod never wanted to come to England, but his clan needs the profits he can gain by claiming his inherited English lands. When he meets the very proper Lady Jillian Newburn, he's fascinated by what he suspects is a warm heart and fiery passion underneath her icy demeanor.

Getting past her chilly resolve to keep him at arm's length will be a challenge, but this MacLeod has never backed down from a challenge in his life. But it's not all fun and games and stolen kisses. There's something about Jillian's stepson that raises the hair on the back of Ian's neck, and he knows better than to ignore the sign of danger that has never steered him wrong.

Contains mature themes.

A Wee Bit of Magic

This is the first book of Ms. Breedings that I have listened to. I have hundreds of books in my library so finding a book that can keep my interest with new storylines is a plus. Very little repetitiveness, small story vignettes, suspense and actionable h/h. There was a moderate amount of sex with different characters as well as the main characters. One reader in her review called it incest, however, this stretches it a bit. A grown man who had never met his stepmother and had not been raised by her wanted revenge sex. A possible storyline with yet another woman that was raising him when he was a child, would have been closer to incest. All-in-all, the villain was f%#king nuts.

Also, when reading about the highlands, a little fairy magic is not unheard of, and this story incorporates some pretty tangible magic. Not too over the top, but magic does come into play.

This is also my first listen with Ms. Russell. She has a very pleasant voice and does male and female voices that you can differentiate easily. The male voice drops down an octave in romantic situations and it does become annoying after a while.

I am giving this book a solid 4-star rating and will listen to the next book in the series. Hopefully, as Ms. Breeding develops her style, she will become a 5-star writer.

weird

ok started off promising went to some incest and spent more time in the villians' sexual escapades than the heroes'. Promised to have a cute relationship of side characters but rushed into it. Then there was randomly magic and Templar knights and druids and fairies... it went a little left field at the end.

The narration is what really got me. She ended every sentence on a slope down tone and elongated the last word... it gets very irksome. Her accents were charming.
