Publisher's summary

In a world nearly identical to ours, the North won the Civil War, Ben Affleck is the sexiest man alive, and Russia never sold Alaska to the US. Instead, Alaska is a rough, beautiful country ruled by a famously eccentric royal family, and urgently in need of a bride for the crown prince. But they have no idea what they're in for when they offer the job to a feisty commoner, a girl who's going to need...

The Royal Treatment.

The princess-to-be primer.

Or, things I've learned really quick, as compiled by her future royal highness - yeah, whatever - Christina. That's me.

1. Telling jokes you picked up from the guys on the fishing boat doesn't go over really well at a fancy ball. 2. Must learn to curtsy, stifle burps, and tell the difference between a salad fork and a fruit knife. 3. Must not keep thinking about Prince David's amazing eyes, lips, hands, shoulders, uh...wait, can I start over? 4. Becoming a princess is a lot harder than it looks. 5. Falling in love is a whole lot easier...

Contains mature themes.

Exceptional

Thank you for doing an Audiable version of my favorite MJD series. Crossing my fingers the rest in the series will also be done in audio.

Fun escape

I always love the author’s sarcastic and witty writing. I kept waiting for more of the antagonist side of the family to come out. Still a fun quick book.

Non-traditional, romantic, relaxing and hilarious

The Royal Treatment

This is my review for books 1 to 3 of the Royal Series (no spoilers)
Each audiobook is a stand-alone complete story, but you will get most out of them when you read them in the correct order. They all involve the royal family of Alaska, and it’s so much more fun when you get to know them.

I really enjoyed this series. Mostly because of the humor, writing style and ‘non traditional’ romance.
Usually in romance stories there is a certain build up, drama that pushes the couple apart and then a reconciliation.
The patterns and pace in these books are pleasantly different and sometimes unpredictable.
A breath of fresh air in the rom-com genre for me.
Highly recommended for a non-traditional romantic relaxing hilarious break from life.

I liked the narration. Emotions, sarcasm and timing were nicely done.
I did have trouble separating thoughts from speech and distinguishing characters from time to time.

I hope some of MaryJanice’s series (including this one) will get bundled in the future.
I was able to buy book 2 and 3 in a sale, and book 1 is currently free via audible+ (appreciated!)
But I wouldn’t have spent a whole credit on each separate book, no matter how much I enjoyed them.
And apart from the cost, it’s much more user friendly to just press play on a trilogy and keep listening then to locate and download each book separately.

I’m grateful I got to listen to this audio book via my Audible Plus membership. Thanks!

I loved this in book form

But even more in audible! If I could give ten stars, I would. It’s a wonderfully crafted tale.

interesting take on what would happen if US hadn't

well if you're wondering what would happened if the United States hadn't bought Alaska this is the book for you. It starts out a little slow but give it time after the first chapter 2 it really gets involved and it's quite funny and a little romance. You can't help but love the king and his crazy antics and attitude.

The king Alexander II of Alaska meets Christine who is just been let go from her cruise ship job. Al as he likes to be called was fishing look like a normal dude and gets to talking with Christina invites her over she can't find another place to live. She eventually takes him up on it and there the king hatches a plan to have Christina marry his oldest son David who really is not very observant and is more into his penguins than anything else

Very Cute

Funny premise, made for some funny moments. Enjoyed this listen, was a great way to spend my time. There were some moments I felt the narration was a bit stilted, but overall had its moments.

So Many uses of the ‘F’ word

I can put up with the F-word here and there in a story, but it seemed like so much and often in this story. Was the writer trying to get to a certain number of words so they used it a lot? Also, I always fast-forward over the ‘mature’ scenes in audiobooks & printed books to protect myself from harmful thoughts. I Hope there wasn’t any important dialogue in those scenes, because I did a lot of fast forwarding. I am sure most will think me a prude, but I am just here to warn fellow prudes, the rest of you do as you please, don't mind me. Nobody in my life uses language like that. Garbage in, garbage out, cuss words in…
I did like the story line and the characters were very sharp, distinct and had individual personalities. I like alternate universe type stories. Go Alaska!
