About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Emma Chase returns with a sweet and sexy stand-alone in the Royally Series.

Princess Lenora Celeste Beatrice Arabella Pembrook had an unusual childhood. She was raised to be a queen - the first queen of Wessco.

It’s a big deal.

When she’s crowned at just 19, the beautiful young monarch is prepared to rule. She’s charming, clever, confident, and cunning.

What she isn’t...is married.

It’s her advising council’s first priority. It’s what Parliament is demanding, and what her people want. Lenora has no desire to tie herself to a man - particularly one who only wants her for her crown. But compromises must be made and royals must do their duty.

Even queens. Especially them.

Years ago, Edward Langdon Richard Dorian Rourke, walked away from his title and country. Now he’s an adventurer - climbing mountains, exploring jungles, going wherever he wants, when he wants - until family devotion brings him home.

And a sacred promise keeps him there.

To Edward, the haughty, guarded little queen is intriguing, infuriating...and utterly captivating. Wanting her just might drive him mad - or become his greatest adventure.

Within the cold, stone walls of the royal palace - mistrust threatens, wills clash, and an undeniable, passionate love will change the future of the monarchy forever.

Every dynasty has a beginning. Every legend starts with a story.

This is theirs.

LOVED This Story.

I loved everything about this story. The previous books in this series were awesome—I loved them, and couldn’t wait to see what this one was about. I was surprised to find out it was about Queen Lenora, that stodgy, opinionated, by-the-book, iron fisted queen who reigned during the first three books. But this is about the young Princess/Queen Lenora and her love story.

OMG

Dang if this book didn’t go through every emotion I possess, and beat the snot out of most of them. What an amazing tale. But it would have to be since the principle character, the Queen, is such an astounding woman. I’m not nearly eloquent enough to do a review of Lenora and Edward’s love story justice. I can only say WOW!

prequel to the series about Queen Lenora

Slow to start but develops into a good story. Good character development for both Lenora and Edward and a fun glimpse at the next book. The narration is a bit dry though in part to make them sound imperious and in part due to the accents.

1 of the best romance series

to date from start to finish I have had the pleasure to read. Each book was as magical or more then the last.

Shane East and Andi Arndt were absolutely fantastic bringing this story to life. They should definitely do more work together.

Thank you Emma Chase for writing and sharing these magical lives and their stories with us.

Best in series

I’m loving this entire series and this is the best. Truly royal and unique. Mostly because she is a queen and quite sophisticated.

It is a great story. It just wasn't for me.

3.5 Crazy Ass Stars!!!

This review is absolutely killing me. I love Emma Chase and, up until now, have loved everything I have read by her. I know I'm in the minority here judging by my brief scan through ratings but this just was for me. The first several chapters just seemed to drag for me. It took me 3 days just to get to chapter 6. Anyone who knows me, knows that is unheard of. I will usually devour just as many books in as many days. Not the case with this one though.
Once the storyline picked up, I just couldn't get into it. I did love getting Lenora and Edward's story but honestly, I'm not into historical romances and I think that was part of my problem. Don't get me wrong, this is just my opinion on the story so don't feel as if I'm swaying you to not read it. I just don't do HR. It's not my jam.
Lenora and Edward's story was a beautiful one and if you have followed the series you know what the present is like for Lenore.
Historical romance may not be my jam but don't let my feelings deter you from reading this. It is a great story. It just wasn't for me.
Update: So I've still been stewing over this and why this didn't work for me. I think I have my hangup figured out. It was the dirty talk. It made me think, "Did they even talk like that back then?" It kinda felt a little "dinosaur love-ish". Then that led to me questioning things about my grandparents and that's just something that I do not need to know nor want to know. I guess I skeeved myself out thus not letting myself enjoy the beautiful story that this was. And it was a beautiful story when you take out the sexy times. If I would have skipped over those parts, I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more.

GREAT

I was surprised how much I loved this story. It ended being my favorite. The narrators keep the story very much alive. Wonderful narration. Can’t wait to hear Thomas’s story and then all those grandchildren 😄. Always a great story teller. I am a big fan Emma 👍
