About this listen

I wanted him. He wanted to ruin me.

It was the blood I noticed first. Running down the neck of the man on the ferry. Then his bruised knuckles, dark eyes, and arrogant smirk. The handcuffs came last. No one else paid him attention, but I couldn't look away. Or deny my instant lust. I had no idea he was being imprisoned on the remote, dark Scottish island I knew well. Or that he'd been kidnapped, not arrested. I went from that naïve girl on the boat, dreaming of stolen kisses, to the one who held the key to his prison cell. When heat turns to hate, all that's left is ruin.

Ruin, book one in the Dark Island Scots series, is a new adult romance with dark themes, including angst, lust-to-hate-to-love, and lost innocence. This series will be deeply interconnected, so expect the occasional wicked cliff-hanger. It'll be well worth the heart palpitations.

Lose yourself in Ruin.

great but a cliffhanger

it's a great book but there are sooooooo many loose ends. If I'd known that, I would have waited for the rest of the series. Narrators were marvelous of course.

Very dark but intriguing story

If only Zachary Webber read all of Ruin’s dialogue it would have been great. This book had some sex scenes that can be disturbing or delightful. I thought the way the female narrator read them they were creepy. She sounded like a gross old man. Not at all like the Ruin that Zachary Webber brought to life. Loved his Scottish accent.

This is a story of child neglect and abuse and sexual perversion so beware of if those things are triggering. But the mystery surrounding imprisoned boys on a Scottish island is compelling.

4.5 Stars!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book because I read a lot of mixed reviews but overall I was very impressed with it. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue surrounding this dark island and the young men held captive there. While some of the questions are answered in this book the ending does leave you wondering what will happen to the men who escape the island. I am definitely going to continue with this series because I need to know what happens next.

Steamy, dark romantic suspense story!

Ruin by Jolie Vines was a dark twisted romantic suspense story that mesmerized me from start to finish. This story is full of angst, steam, danger, and mystery which had me not wanting to push pause through the entire story! This is book 1 in Jolie's Dark Islands Scots Books, so be prepared for a bit of a cliffhanger at the end. This romance follows Struan and Thea's love story, and who knew one ferry ride would ignite such a fiery attraction!

This audiobook is narrated by Zachary Webber and Zara Hampton-Brown. This is the first time I've heard these two paired together, both just completely wowed me with their performances. This book is told from the first person mainly with Struan and Thea's POV, however, there are a few other side characters' chapters, they also narrate. Zachary absolutely embodies Struan's bad-boy persona all in a delicious Scottish accent. Zara's performance of "good girl" Thea is such a decadent treat to your ears that you can't help but cheer and gush over her character. Plus, these two bring all the heat to the spicey scenes that will make you blush!

Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook! If you are a fan of a dark suspenseful romance with a broody hunky bad boy, a brave determined good girl, ferry rides to remote islands. mystery, sinister secrets, danger, HOT spicy times, and an ending that will leave you needing to discover more, then you will love Struan and Thea's story. I am looking forward to more from Jolie Vines, and I'm super eager for Sinclair and Lottie's story next!

Well now I'm ruined!!

When Jolie said she was doing a new series, I wasn't prepared to love it as much as the other Scots. But once again, like everytime I read her books, I'm forced to change my mind. Struan is HOT and made me realize I also love bad boys. Having the perfect audio to go with the baddest of boys is the cherry on top of a hot, sexy sundae!!

Amazing

The story is dark, it is intense, steamy and unforgettable. The author has a vivid way with words and when it is narrated, it’s easy to imagine the story being played out.

Raw, dark and riveting

This book took me on an emotional, raw journey with characters that I won’t be able to forget. Struan (Ruin) gave me chills and thrills ….a bad boy (who’s definitely all man), snarly and openly angry with raw animal magnetism. Thea went from poor, naive innocent hopelessly attracted to the bad boy who set her imagination and body on fire, to a woman determined to figure out what machinations are going on behind her back, to stand on her own and finally to claim that bad boy for her own. Their story is dark, deliciously twisted and steamy. The secondary characters, Struan’s mates, or brothers as he calls them, are just as memorable and I will eagerly await their stories. This book held me utterly entranced and unwilling to put it down until I had read the very last word. It does end on a precarious cliff hanger, but I refuse to give away any details because it would spoil this wonderfully written and riveting book for you. The shock, the twists and the thrills make this book unforgettable and well worth reading.

The narrators of this book make it come to life. The voices and accents fit the characters well making this book even more enjoyable and riveting. Kudos to all for a wonderfully memorable book. I received a free gift of copy of this audio book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Awesome series!!

Listened to the whole series, and he’d to come back and leave a review. Great plot. I loved the fact Jolie didn’t diddle daddle on conversations and information. And also didn’t try to drag on a scene unnecessarily. Everything flowed smoothly. Also, I fell in love with each character and their story, so, I loved the fact that all the characters presence stayed strong through each book, and were not forgotten along the way. Was looking for a new author to follow, and I guess I have. Great read/listen.
And of course.. freaking awesome narration. Zachary and Zara rocked this!!😘👏 I could picture each character when they spoke.

Amazing!

So freaking good!

Both narrators did a great job! Zachary Webber is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators. He handled the characters perfectly!

Wow the story though! So many things to dissect… Struan and Thea… the island… the guys… Lottie.. and all the moving parts. It’s difficult to leave a detailed review without giving anything away. But if you want suspense… some angst… and a good romance grab this today!
