About this listen

A direct, pithy, and accessible guide to the entire path of Tibetan Buddhism by one of the most beloved and respected contemporary lamas

Accessible, playful, and genuine, this concise guide shows how we can incorporate our own daily experiences into our spiritual path and awaken to how things truly are. By embracing sadness, love, and openness in our lives, we develop an altruistic attitude to help all beings who suffer and to reduce our own greed and aggression. This easy-to-listen-to manual by one of the most widely loved and respected Tibetan Buddhist teachers of our time teaches us how to honestly explore and deal with our own hang-ups and neuroses. Through knowing our own true nature as aware and compassionate, we can progress, step-by-step, on the Buddhist path and use Rinpoche's pithy wisdom along the way as a touchstone.

Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche's fresh and engaged approach to timeless Buddhist wisdom enables us to deeply connect with authentic teachings in a modern context. This work is a delight and inspiration to listen to, outlining the major teachings and practices of Buddhism in a succinct way.

Quite short but helpful

Interesting , wise, helpful, but a bit too short … I would have like it to be longer.

wonderful teaching for this life!

Wonderful reading by Richard Gere of a remarkably succinct Buddhist instruction by Chokyi Nyma Rinpoche! Important! I listened to most of it in one sitting.

Likely the best audio book I’ve ever experienced

I was taking a back at the sheer density of this teaching. I am a philosophy major and a student of meditation & eastern methodologies for some time now; however, I have never been met by a book that so nicely and artistically placed all the information I needed before me. Please do yourself the service of listening through this.

For when sadness of impermanence visits.

This book really helped in an area that I was stuck in. When contemplating impermanence or actually seeing and knowing impermanence a great sadness would come. Rinpoche does a good job of explaining the why the sadness comes, what it is and what to do about it. Richard Gere does a good job of reading the book and makes the text easy to listen to and understand. Would definitely recommend this book for anyone on the path to understanding.

All you need in one short book

Just off a 5 day retreat with Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche and this book serves as a great summary of his teachings and a reminder I can go back to again and again. Every sentence has meaning. It is deceptively simple — don’t rush through it. Very highly recommended.

Uninspiring.

It wasn’t bad. But it wasn’t new or fresh. It was short and rather generic. Would have been a good free listen to brush up, but was not worth a credit.
