Publisher's summary

Leaving his enormous family behind, native New Yorker, Elijah, decides to move to Brighton Pier for a fresh start. Just when he thinks his new life is going perfectly, he finds out his burgeoning relationship is nothing more than a friends-with-benefits arrangement to the man he was swiftly falling for.

Jake has worked hard for the life he's made for himself in Brighton Pier. Running his own business and spending time with his family and friends is enough for him, or so he's convinced himself. Though he's met a man he cares for, he's adamant about keeping his single life as is. He just hopes their friends-with-benefits arrangement will be enough to keep Eli in his life.

When tragedy strikes, and Jake's world is turned upside down, his instincts lead him to lean on the one person who's become someone special, despite his best efforts to try and push him away. Eli-unable to turn Jake away when a loss so great takes the strong man to his knees-steps selflessly into the void in Jake's life, regardless of the toll it takes on him. As both men struggle to deal with their own emotional turmoil, their lives veering off course, they grow inevitably closer as the days pass. Can two people, drawn together by tragedy, turn a devastating situation into a fresh start? Or is it too late for a new beginning?

Contains mature themes.

Very likeable and attractive couple

It’s a nice story with very likeable characters. At times it lacked a bit depth or originality for me. The narrator makes up for some of it.

Swoon love. Extended family, the kids are amazing. I love a romance book, that makes your like the characters and then after time makes you love them.

Good story. Good narration.

I enjoyed getting to know the characters. The story had a bit of emotional tension. The plot was a bit predictable. If your a looking for a romance story with a few tropes including hot tattoo artists, a dash of steam, and good narration, this is a good read/listen.

Awesome story read

I fell in love with the Haven's cove series the first time I read it. When it was released in audio, I thought there was no way listening to it could be better than reading it. I was so wrong.
When I realized Jaclyn Quinn didn't have the Beyond the cove series in audio I was heartbroken. I hear the characters voice in my head when I read the books, but hearing them as the story is read...it just takes the story to another level.
I'm glad she brought the first book into audio and can't wait for the rest.

A must read! The best of the series.

Full disclosure, I only read the three titles that take place in Brighton Pier New Jersey - directly related to the this core group of characters. The NY books didn’t grab my attention. Of these three, this book hits all the marks, closely followed by Appeal to You.

Let’s talk about Kirt Graves and his great narration. Graves moves easily among this broad group of characters and is especially strong with the boys and motherly neighbor Nina. Nina becomes so central to this series that a lesser talent could have sunk the book. If I have any criticism - and it’s more curiosity, is why Connecticut born Jake sounds like he’s from Jersey. Neither his brother, nor his parents sound like Jersey. Whose choice was that? Otherwise amazing job.

The set up is smart, bringing the reader in to a relationship that has deteriorated over the past year. We step in just before tragedy strikes, and are there in present time, navigating this difficult relationship between Jake and Eli. The challenges are great as Eli loves Jake but feels like Jake’s last resort. It’s made worse as Eli works for Jake. After the accident, Jake and Eli’s journeys run a gamut of emotions, but is a sweet, sad and at times funny course.

The supporting cast is well thought out. Clearly Quinn mapped this world and all the players fit perfectly to tell this story of loss, love, acceptance and found family. She smartly introduces the characters for future novels without being too obvious. Nina is the perfect thread to run through these Brighton Pier stories as the accepting mother/grandmother figure nearly everyone in this books needs at some point.

I have listened more than once and honestly don’t have anything I would say was a miss. I rarely give a five star overall, but the combination of narration and strength of story is fully deserving. Highly recommended.

Loved it! I lived the plot.

This was my first book by this author and I thought it was great. I immediately fell in love with the characters. The story is very well written and I loved how it developed. I just finished listening to the audiobook and I am going to listen to it again right now. When I really love a book I listen to it twice in a row. Also, the narrator was perfect! The tone and cadence of his voice was great for this story.

Cozy, Sexy, and So Satisfying

This is my first book by this author and this narrator. Kudos to both for a lovely story and a very enjoyable audio. Jake and Eli are complete main characters, and all the secondary characters were well developed. I love the humor and realism in the story, little to no unnecessary drama, and the right level of gentleness in dealing with the tragedy. The chemistry and feelings between Jake and Eli are so believable, and the family support, from both actual and found members, was heartwarming. The narrator brought out all the feels and humor in this story across many characters. I couldn’t put the story down and actually stayed awake to listen through the night. Can’t wait to enjoy the rest of the series!

So glad I found this author

I can’t say enough about this book. So hard to find good authors in this type of romance. This actually had a well written story with hot sex scenes . Most are just about the sex scenes and very little story or poorly written stories. I stayed up way too late listening, I just didn’t want to stop. Starting second book now
