About this listen

Across the perilous expanse of the Great Valharoth Desert, Akiri and Kyra have journeyed seeking fortune among the rich and mysterious kingdoms of the East. He has turned his back on the gods and their schemes and is determined to create his own destiny. But the gods will not be so easily ignored. And once again, Akiri finds himself caught in their web.

In the kingdom of Yagash, an ancient evil has spread over the land like a plague. The Cult of Hajazar, at the command of its dark leader, is seizing the innocent for their blood sacrifices. Now they have set their sights on a young lord whom Akiri has vowed to protect. But there is more at stake than the life of one child. Should Akiri fail, it will herald the return of the old gods...and the end of the world. With naught but his steel and his wits as his ally - and Kyra, of course - Akiri will face an enemy of such colossal power and cunning that the heart of the fiercest warrior will be tested to the full. But he is Akiri. His will is iron. And his courage will never fade.

So all three of these books were great. For some reason audible will not let me post reviews for books 1 and 3 saying I cant leave a review. This has been happening a lot lately.

I am sure some of you other listeners have noticed this. I will be glad when it is fixed. It really isn't fair to the authors and narrators who work so hard and all they ask is to be left a review, and we are unable to do leave a review.

Anyway, all three of these books were great, so if you read this review start with book 1 its an awesome series all the way through.

The narration is very good too!

Great Series

Akiri continues to disdain the gods, all the while being pulled into a sojourn not of his making that distracts him his quest to reach the East for some unknown destiny. He finds himself agreeing to a bodyguard position to safeguard a noble's 9 year old son but is soon drawn into a larger conflict after Kyra is captured and he is forced to serve a demon in order to save her and the boy, who he oddly finds himself caring for.

He is still very much the brutal and sometimes savage warrior he was before when confronted with betrayers and enemies, though, as he forces he way to extricate himself from the unwanted battle.

The authors did a very good job in portraying him and the other characters and Jonathan Davis is superb at narrating each character; especially, the steely resolve of Akiri, himself.

great story line. If you like Brandon Sanderson, Scott lynch, George r.r. Martin, Tolkien, Robin Hobb, among many similar authors, and of course Brian d. Anderson's other books, which I own every one of, you'll love this.

loved it! can't wait for next book!

This was another great book by Brian D. Anderson. The Akiri books are a bit simpler of an epic fantasy, full of brute action, much like R.A. Salvatore's style of writing, with good and interesting plot, though perhaps not great, but full of action and tension all the while to keep you on the edge of your seat. Brian does a fantastic job with this, and I'm looking forward to the next book!

This Fantasy is Full of Action!

The story and performance was great but the book is way too short it's more like a penny novel.
