Publisher's summary

Her parents' death has left Kelsey Langton penniless - and responsible for the well-being of her younger sister, Jean. Kelsey knows that the only way to avert their doom is to allow herself to be sold at auction. Resigned to becoming the plaything of a well-heeled gentleman, she gets more than she bargained for.

Lord Derek Malory is the highest bidder - a dashing rakehell from a family of charming London rogues. Enthralled by the lovely young woman with shining eyes and dark hair, he purchases her to be his mistress, unaware of the true worth of his prize. He never imagined that this woman he so frivolously acquired would be blessed with all the attributes he was looking for in a wife - grace, wit, intelligence, as well as beauty. He certainly never expected to fall in love.

Better reader

I really love Johanna Lindsey's bookssni just discovered her here on Audibles. I was so excited until I started to listen and it was a man reading. He made the Characters sound very old. It was a complete turn off.

Derek Mallory's Story

Great narration and lovely story. Derek purchases himself a mistress to save the girl from a horrible fate. He ends up finding a perfect mate and soon discovers she is more than she has portrayed herself to be, much to Derek's good fortune.

oldie but goodie

I read this book sneakily as an adolescent, now 31 I had to revisit this amazing novel. I have to I now notice subtle nuances that I didnt as a child. this book is better as an adult. I just wish the gentleman narrator had a sexier voice lol. I could only see derek as a middle aged Englishman lol.

Narration

In my opinion, the narrator for this book was not a good fit. The narrator made all the men and women sounds the same, weak pompous windbags and snooty old ladies. I'm not sure why anyone would decide to change Laurel in the middle of the series. It made it very hard for me to get through this story.
I LOVE the books and have read them many times. I was very excited to learn that we have Laurel back after this book.

Johanna never fails

I absolutely love a good Johanna Lindsey story. Recently, Laurel Merlington has been reading her titles. This time it was a man. He was very good with the background characters, but UGH the Malory’s he had all wrong James sounded like a goof ball and Nicholas (yuk). The women,,, well … ruined the vision for me. But the story holds your attention. I do wish she took the story back to the ancestral home and possibly Edward purchased it as an investment once her parents died. That would of wrapped the story up of her. The Malory family never fails!

Amazing Novel!!

The Ashford character really put a different spin on this story - in addition to learning about Molly! I loved it!! The narration by Michael Page was good but I truly wished this particular story had been narrated by Laurel Merlington.

Great Story

Love the story despite a few questionable points, historically speaking. The narrator, however, detracts from the enjoyment for me. I think James Malory is one of the most memorable and popular characters from the entire historical romance genre and having his voice reminiscent of Colonel Mustard just doesn't 'work'! In fact, the voices of all the male characters except Derrick are too much like a comic portrayal of the stereotypical English gentleman to be pleasant.

A Decent :Listen

This book is a good listen, but I liked Captive of My Desire, Gentle Rogue and Magic of You better.
