Publisher's summary

Scandal follows Rose Barclay, young widow of the Duke of Southdown, wherever she goes. It's never her fault, but newspapers love to write about the simple girl from Scotland and the much older duke who died suddenly on their honeymoon. And now there is even more talk as the legitimacy of the marriage is being contested by the duke's son and heir. Steven McBride is a decorated soldier-and a notorious gambler and womanizer. The last thing he wants is marriage, but due to a series of unfortunate events, his and Rose's names are linked in the papers, threatening the lovely lady with ruin. To save the day, Steven suggests that they claim to be engaged. But as desire boils between them, Rose and Steven soon learn the difficulties of maintaining their deception, which might not be a lie after all....

Wish it was LONGER!!!

I have been looking forward to learning of Stephen McBride for a long time. I do wish that there would have been more back story to this, or just simply a longer story. For what is there is excellent, per usual from Jennifer Ashley.
I think I'm disappointed because Stephen isn't as deep a character as we usually see in this series. Narration is masterful, again per usual with Angela Dawe.
Overall, a definite read for those involved in the series.

Another great book.

This book is not as long as the others, but clearly just as good. I have loved this series from the beginning. Angela Dawe has done a great job narrating it as well. Jennifer Ashley has written a wonderful and engaging series.

Phenomenal, as usual. Ashley can't write a bad book.

Take a sodden soldier, add a dutchess in despair, mix with wit and a glorious storyline -- voila -- another delightful tale that will steal your sleep and chill, then wrench, then warm your heart. She's done it again!

Short But Sweet

As others have mentioned, I wish this story was a bit longer. This book is more a novella than a novel. So the author makes some big jumps in the storyline to get to the "happily ever after" that we all love in these novels. Despite, that it's an enjoyable book and an easy listen.

A chance encounter changed their lives forever

A stumble in a drunken stupor, bumping into a woman, leads to a very different life for both of them.
There's, off course, another substory, which shows a conniving son, trying to ensure that the young woman who had married his father, before the father's death, got nothing. However, our hero, Captain Stephen McBride has other ideas.
Another enthralling episode from this writer.

This was a good book but to short.

I really enjoyed this book, the only thing that was wrong is it was to short. I wish it went more into the life of the Duke and his son with more back ground on them. I also think that it should of gave more about Steven and his life as a soldier. Other then that it was a good book and u hope audible gets the last three book in this series.
HAPPT LISTENING!!!😊😊

Marriage Equals A Bigger Tent

Audible Escape
Great short story. Like his brother, Elliot’s story, this one has great characters, fun mystery, and uplifting spirit from our heroine and Steven our hero. I do use the 1.25x speed to match the adventure.
The Stolen MacKenzie Bride is not too be missed, you will shed a tear as the Battle of Culloden is re played once again. This whole series is wonderful due to the narration of Ms Dawe, whose full range of accents, with Scotts, none better in the business. Her interpretation of children’s voices, none so far in this short story are the best again in the business.

Terrific read..

Any additional comments?

So, 5 two stars and 52 four and five stars on Amazon.. Go figure..
As with ALL the Mackenzie books, except Daniel's story that I haven't gotten to yet, I simply loved this story. Loved Steven and Rose, what an awesome twosome. And it was nice seeing Ian, Beth, Ainsley, Cam, and Sinclair, even if it was them having lines in the book or just a mention that they were there. Wonderful storyline and some great sexual tension and sex. You just can't go wrong with the Mackenzies and McBrides.
Just ignore the lower reviews cuz I highly recommend this read..

As to the narrator: Ms. Dawe gets better with each book she reads. As with a lot of the female narrators all her men sound almost alike but at least they sound like men. All she needs to do is work on her emotions and she'll be an awesome narrator.
