About this listen

Hidden Powers. An Ancient Academy. Forbidden Fruits.

After years of service in the Imperial Expeditionary Force, Jol Rivers has found a tentative home in Littlereach, where he makes a living as a blacksmith.

One day, however, a beautiful mage arrives and tells him that he has a mysterious magical power hidden within the items he forges, one that could defeat the malignant forces threatening the Second Empire. She invites him to the Lyceum, an institute for mages where he can develop this power.

Little does Jol know that he has his own knowledge to impart to the other students, the kind of forbidden talents that binds them to him…

Surprisingly good

I never write reviews for this genre, but this book was surprisingly good and had an actual story that was interesting. It's a 5 star book for the genre - it's not a 5 star book compared to "real" books. I hope I dont offend anyone by making that comparison. It's a bit weird because I had sworn to myself that I'd never buy another Dante King book again because the last I read was trash, but this book is really good and I'm looking forward to the 2nd book.

2/5 characters 4/5 plot

Character’s are flat but the plot is good for the genre. I Listen while I work and It was decent for that. Wouldn’t recommend to good company if you know what I mean but it’s a decent read.

Main character is insufferable

The main character is just an insufferable idiot, “you’re in danger” “she is in danger” “I can’t move she is in danger” that’s nearly word for word a few chapters in I like the author but this is a miss

Moronic MC

The main character is a moron that occasionally gives you a glimmer of hope that he has just a little bit of a brain. The female characters are unimpressive with cookie cutter character traits. The World is inconsistent at best switching from medieval to post apocalyptic to steam punk without steam. the wordplay is just terrible, either written by an AI or someone who barely speaks English. overall a terrible book that I barely finished.

Not even a little good

it reads like a fanfic written by a teenager going through puberty one that has failed every english class of their life. the main character is a complete idiot and acts like a child even though he is supposed to be a nearly 30 year old veteran and the female characters are just sex dolls with characters as deep as a puddle. it is not even decent on the lesser scale I judge books of this genre in don't waste your time.

couldn't get past several chapters

Interactions between people felt really forced and awkward. Looked up the author and it seems like a content farm, so I lost interest fast.
