Publisher's summary

Discover the fascinating intellectual legacy of 19th-century philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer.

Unveiling the profound reflections and philosophical musings of legendary thinker Arthur Schopenhauer, this collection compiles some of his greatest works, providing modern listeners with a detailed and unparalleled glimpse into Schopenhauer’s worldview and philosophy.

Poignant, humorous, witty, and deeply thoughtful, this book explores the full range of Schopenhauer’s ideas, artfully blending the spiritual and metaphysical with cutting questions about ethics, logic, and the true nature of reality. Drawing on themes from classical Greek philosophy and Eastern spirituality, Schopenhauer’s writings have left an enduring legacy that continues to influence us to this day.

Inside this collection, you’ll discover:

  • World as Will and Idea Volumes 1-3, widely considered Schopenhauer’s magnum opus and the foundation of his philosophical doctrine
  • Wisdom of Life, a profound and enlightening essay ranging over themes of rationality, success, happiness, and the power of the will
  • Counsels and Maxims, a collection of writings that combine classical Western philosophy, Eastern spiritualism, and contemporary 19th-century thought
  • The Art of Being Right, a witty and sarcastic exposé of debating and the underhanded moves of argumentation

Perfect for newcomers to Schopenhauer’s philosophy and experienced intellectual adventurers alike, the Schopenhauer Collection serves as an ideal handbook or reference guide for students, as well as anybody who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the ideas that came to dominate 19th century philosophy.

Great Collection from an OG of Modern Philosophy

Huge fan of Schopenhauer. One of the first thinkers to incorporate eastern concepts into western philosophy, I’ve always respected the sincerity of his writings and brash unapologetic pessimism. Having his writings compiled in this format has been great to see his influences on guys like Freud, Nietzsche and Jung. The narrator does a good job keeping steady and getting out of the way of the writing. I appreciate that this collection includes his most important work. Gonna be listening to this for a while.

A Great Way to Enjoy Classics

I was given a copy of this audiobook for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

Like all classical literature, you really need to sit and digest what Schopenhauer writes about in this collection. He even says so himself in the introduction to this collection.

However, listening to Jonathan Waters narrate this collection makes reading and comprehending easier. When I listen to this collection again I will be making notes in hard copies of Schopenhauer’s works while listening so I can get a better grasp on what is being said.

I think everyone should listen to classics by audiobook. This is great for people who have read these works before or readers who are new to them like myself.

I couldn’t have asked for a better narrator for this collection.

Dude, Majestic.

Forget it, this man was the beast, especially On the Wisdom of Life, just ridiculous. Give it your time, the pragmatism it contains transcends space time and all areas of being. Go for it :)

This audiobook offers a broad, insightful perspective on the world through Schopenhauer’s various philosophical lenses. The narrator’s tone is light and easy to follow, and the book itself is well written. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in exploring philosophy, whether you are a beginner or have been studying for a while.

Awesome philosophy

Our public education system does not appreciate the philosophical roots of human actions motivations and it’s being. That’s the reason we miss the wisdom of greats like Schopenhauer. He is my second father whose words and philosophies guide me so that I turn a human that nature desires!
