Terrible narration

I bought this collection for Crime and Punishment and almost couldn’t finish it. The narrator ruins the book entirely. His failure at Russian accents as well as misplaced emphasis almost makes it sound like an AI voice doing a cheep infomercial.

Four books for the price of one!

I downloaded this for Crime & Punishment but got a bonus three additional books by a classic writer. Audio version is really good and much easier to follow along versus reading the hard copy.

Captivating collection and great listen

Dostoyevsky’s books are a must read. The narrator eases through his works with theatrical dialogue and an alluring tone.

96 Hours of Classic Fiction

From sheer volume alone this is probably worth it. The performance was decent: character voices were great but the narrative voice was a little off for me (call it a push). The stories are of course classics … one of which (Crime and Punishment) I had already read in High School many eons ago and didn’t particularly care for it (I have issues with the protagonist); however, I recently had the Brothers Karamazov recommended to me and rather than reading through the another huge story by a famous author for whom I should appreciate his works more than I do, I figured an audiobook would be a good way to do this …

And I was absolutely spot on here. In my mind, it is the only way to “casually” read Dostroyevsky (Yes, I know that is heresy) … save the reading for your lit class when you have to dig into weird philosophical concepts that you have small interest in. As an audiobook, it was really wasn’t so bad.

I was given this free advance listener copy (ALC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Dedicate time to listen.

Not a title you can leisurely listen to and do other things as it will pull you in to every single word. The fluctuations in the narrators tone really have you giving your full attention. I personally prefer a narrator who is easier to follow in a more diverse setting, and can have the story flow a bit better! Only reason for four stars.

Overall a great listen and the stories are very very captivating. Gives a great picture into the characters lives and some juicy plot turns along the way.

Love this collection!

This collection was the perfect combination of Dostoyevsky's works, some I had read before and some new to me! the narration was very interesting and engaging as well. it is quite a long narration and made for an excellent audio book for our road trip. I love the different voices he does for the different characters! Definitely would listen to more from this narrator.

Narrator Brings Story to Life

I was provided a copy of the audiobook for review purposes. However, all opinions are my own.

I consider Dostoyevsky’s works intimidating classic literature. However, the narrator in this collection, Michael Harding, does a wonderful job of bringing life into these stories. Harding does a great job bringing out the characters’ personality and makes the stories flow.

The collection contains The Brothers Karamazov, Crime and Punishment, the Idiot, and Notes from the Underground. With that being said the audiobook is a bit lengthy but I recommend breaking the audiobook up into chunks. Listen to one book in the collection at a time and you will have a much more enjoyable experience.

I recommend this audiobook to readers who are intimidated by large classic tomes.

Captivating Listen!

This collection of stories paired with the narrator paint the picture of a dramatic murder mystery told at a thrilling pace. Not usually a fan of classic literature but this listen was entertaining and captivating. Would recommend the individual books as book club reads! Lots of character development to discuss.

Visceral, Honest, Great Collection

Haven’t picked up Dostoyevsky since school but this collection was a must get. All the greatest hits are in there and it was great being able to experience the underlying tension again that’s indicative of all his writings. Narrator did a solid job, I like that he kept it straight and stayed away from that dramatic, far off tone some readers take on when trying to relay these types of writings. It’s a long collection, great for my next road trip.
