Alison Campbell's reality is far from ordinary. All her life she's been told that there are things that go bump in the night; dangerous creatures that are half animal, half man. Not only that, she's one of the chosen ones whose job it is to protect humanity from these monsters by rooting them all out. That is why she's trying to get close to some of them, by posing as an informant against her own people. However, the more time she spends with 'the other side,' the less she can continue to believe that they're inherently evil. In fact, she's actually developing feelings for one of them. So, who are the real monsters?
Jamie Abbott, bear shifter and local leader of The Alliance, is hot on the trail of The Sons of Domnall, a secret society of humans out to destroy all of his kind. After an attempt to bring down their Edinburgh cell, he and his team are scrambling to question their prisoners before the Sons inevitably mount a rescue effort. That's when he meets Alison, the mysterious and curvaceous beauty who looks strangely familiar. It's attraction at first sight, but Jamie can't shake the feeling that Alison, the woman his bear has chosen as his mate, is hiding something big.
Before long, the Sons of Domnall will strike back at Jamie and The Alliance. It'll be time for everyone to choose where their loyalties lie: love or family, human or shifter?
This paranormal romance novella is the third in the Scottish Werebears series. Although each part stands on its own and can be heard out of order, listening to them one after the other would provide the best possible experience.

The publisher's blurb is rather extensive, so no need for a recap. The deep personal conflict that the main characters feel is managed very well and the story grabs you and makes you finish it in one sitting. Excellent!
Patrick Blackthorne is excellent as narrator.

Another well written novella that flowed smoothly with an unexpected plot twist. Alison, the daughter to the leader of the group "Sons of Domnal" is part of secrete organization that believes in protecting humanity from shifters. She's been taught shifters are dangerous; however, she cannot deny her attractions to Jamie, who happens to be a bear shifter. As this group collides with the shifters, she will be forced to choose a side.
While Alison and Jamie's interaction and dialogue is well developed, the plot could be predictable at times.
I've listened to the first three stories in the series, and enjoyed them because they are a quick stories, and the plot builds on the previous book.

Again, it CAN be a standalone but is better if you've listened to the first 2. The set up for the next one looks like we are going to find out more about where Jamie's brother ended up. Narration is consistently good throughout the series.

This is the third book in this series and it continues to surprise and capture the reader/listeners interest. A Forbidden Love is the story of Jamie Abbott, the Shifter Alliance Team Leader, based in Edinburgh, Scotland and the Alison Campbell, who happens to be the daughter of the head of the Sons of Domnall.
The story opens with a Prologue describing the day that Jamie’s younger brother, Matthew, disappeared while playing with Jamie on the beach. We knew, from Book 2 that Jamie had a well-guarded secret and now we find out what that secret is.
We also know from the previous book that Alison Campbell has been masquerading as a willing informant trying to infiltrate the Alliance and discover where, in Edinburgh, their headquarters is so that her father and his group can attack and destroy the shifters located there. Meanwhile, Alison’s father and two of his men have been captured by the Alliance and are being held and questioned at Headquarters by Jamie and his team.
Alison’s brother, Garreth, has taken charge of the Sons of Domnall in their father’s absence and is not happy about Alison getting involved with the ‘animals’ at the Alliance. When Jamie and Alison meet, he recognizes right away that she is his mate. He does not know it is her father he is holding for interrogation, he only knows he must claim her. Alison is also attracted to Jamie and decides it is worth risking her brother’s ire to have a fling with him. And so it begins …
Will Garreth find his father and their men before they are shipped off to National Headquarters for further interrogation? Will Alison be able to leave Jamie once they’ve been together, will she want to? And what of Jamie’s brother, Matthew? Is there a connection? You’ll need to read or listen to the book to discover the answers. I can’t wait for Book 4!
Best of the series, so far!
