About this listen

After a devastating galactic war, disgraced veteran Ralston Muck ekes out a living as a bouncer at Last Stop Station’s premier nightclub, A Curtain of Stars.

Night after night he listens to the club’s star performer, Siren, sing her memories and ease some of his aching loss. But when Siren goes missing, Muck finds himself drawn into a world of dirty cops, drug lords, and conspiracies that trace back to the war itself.

The only person he can trust isn’t even human. Angel, Siren’s personal AI, was ripped from the singer’s mind the night Siren disappeared. With no idea what has happened to her human host, and pursued by a killer virus, Angel flees to Muck for answers.

Together they struggle to comprehend the conspiracy that entangles both their lives. Can Muck and the angel on his shoulder recover Siren before it’s too late? Or will he lose everything that matters to him one more time?

Fantastic story

I don't have any recent memory of anything quite like this book. The characters were relatable, the storyline solid and flowed well. I eagerly intend to get the next book. As a constant user of Audible, I especially enjoyed the multiple narrators.

Great story. Made me hope there will be a book 2

I love a good cyberpunk story and this one was great. The characters were well written and the performances by the narrators really brought them to life. I was rooting for them as the story went along. I really h ope the writers will come out with more stories about them and Last Stop.

Narration excellent

Natasha Soudek is one of my favorite narrators and the other guy was good too but he felt rushed to me but I still enjoyed them both. Good story with character development and enough twists and turns with a great cliff hanger. Will be looking for the sequel. Also liked that there was romance but that it stayed classy and did not get overwhelming graphic and lengthy-because hey-less is so often more.

Excellent & original Sci-fi noir

Second Chance Angel is a beautifully written, fun, and original noir science fiction novel.
The central original premise is the artificial intelligence “Angel” implanted in human soldiers by alien “Mentors”, with unclear abilities and repercussions.
One such angel finds itself separated from its host, and must join with another human to unravel the mystery.

A noir look into the AI world

loved the way the AI characters come alive and the multilayered story that leaves you wanting more. bizarre but beautiful, the themes of men and machine in an alien world should make us think about integr6of tech and flesh. great book.

An amazing story

This story is very unique. It is beautifully woven together in a way that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish. The quality of the three performers is high, bested only by the quality of writing. Barber and Ezell are outstanding storytellers. I leave this book hoping for another book in the series to be published soon!

Interesting story marred by one TERRIBLE NARRATOR

The narrator for Angel was amazing, with top notch emotion and intonation and personality.

The narrator for Leo and Sarah (Sera?) was fine. I didn't particularly care for the way she read Leo, but I can understand the artistic decision.

But the narrator for Muck — David Drummond — was just absolutely atrocious! Muck is supposed to be a gruff veteran / investigator / bouncer. Instead, David made him sound like some annoying straight-laced fuddy duddy! Every chapter he read just killed the flow and mood of the story. If his voice were a couple octaves higher, he'd be perfect as an encyclopedia salesman. As a narrator, David just doesn't have a modicum of the range and sensibility needed to do a credible job for this book. And it's not surprising, considering that ~95% of his narration credits are for non-fiction books.

As for the story itself, it's not particularly amazing, but at least it was interesting, above average, and worth a listen.

Second Chance Angel indeed

seriously old school noir story. Veterans of a devastating war, working out a living in a bleak but at the same time vibrant world. the nonhuman characters are very interesting and compelling. it's a hell of a good ride.

Very nice AI story

While the basic story of this book is nothing new the authors take on it is very good. Great character development, and a believable universe to set the story in. Hopefully we will see this story continue.
