Better than the first book.

I was so glad to see that the story made real progress in the second book. Honestly I could have told someone the story of the first book inside of a minute and they could listen to this one with little to no problem understanding it. This story was great, it wasn't mind blowing because it felt oddly incomplete to me. This may just be my bias but I feel like having chapters back and forth between the main characters would have been more interesting and told a deeper story. It's just guesswork figuring out what Alvin is thinking for so much of the story and it makes for a lessened emotional connection with him. Also, I didn't like Kelly/Chloe in the beginning and I still don't but I did find myself respecting and rooting for her despite myself. I suppose it could be because I'm a woman too and to hear that kind of abuse being dished out to a woman brings out a sort of brutality, making you hope she claws his eyes out and gets away because although she did some crappy things as a teen, no woman deserves to be assaulted the way she was. There's a message here about the impact we have on others around us, about bullying. About how one moment can define you, about how it can bruise you your whole life and all it takes is to have that bruise poked for the blood to come to the surface and hurt all over again. I would recommend this book.
