Publisher's summary

For Sidney Hale, rescuing dogs is more than a hobby. It’s a calling. A deep-seated need. An unstoppable compulsion. For reasons so unsettling, she shares them with no one…until she meets Decker. After coming to her rescue while Sidney battled to save a dog - literally - the gorgeous SEAL proves he can be trusted with her secrets, her safety…maybe even her heart.

Saving an abused pit bull from a suspected dog fighter brings Decker “Gumby” Kincade not only the dog he’s always wanted, but the first woman in ages to catch his interest. Sidney’s reason for rescuing Hannah, and animals like her, is shocking…but it makes Gumby want her even more. Her harrowing past has made her the strong, brave, compassionate woman she is today. She could be The One…if Gumby can help curb her habit of putting herself squarely in danger’s path.

But he may be too late. Hannah’s previous owner is enraged over her loss…and looking for revenge.

*Securing Sidney is the second book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

This story examines the stark reality of dogfighting and other animal abuse, and includes brief descriptions that may be unpleasant for some listeners.

Love this audio

Savannah Peachwood does an excellent job telling Sidney's story. I will listen to this audio often.

Susan Stoker continues her SEAL of Protection Legacy series with Securing Sidney . Stoker successfully merges romance, suspense, enticing heroines, and hot SEALs in her books, and this one is no exception. I have a weakness for dogs and their owners myself, so a good dog support character is a plus for me.

Sidney Hale’s mission is rescuing dogs. Her mission is often dangerous. To make it worse, Sidney tends to leap before she looks. As her past unfolds, the reason she is so committed to saving animals is revealed. Sidney is a head-strong, resilient, and determined character. Decker (Gumby) Kincaid stumbles on Sidney fighting an abusive dog owner and steps in to help. Don’t you love his nickname?

Sidney has a disturbing family history. She feels betrayed by her parents. Her brother is an evil character. When Sidney talks about her family compared to Decker’s loving relations he feels the pull to help her grow. The closer they get, the more he wants to protect her and take away some of her pain.

I love how Decker and his team work together outside of a SEAL mission to protect Sidney. As Securing Sidney is the second book in the series, we see a new group of women forming bonds to support one another and their men. Characters from previous books wander in the series, but their presence is brief. The primary focus is on the new relationships building among this team.

Susan Stoker is one of my favorite, go-to authors when I need a military/romantic suspense story. She rings the bell again with Securing Sidney and the SEAL of Protection team.

subject of book

I actually liked the book. I thought that the author tied everything in together. I think childhood issues affect some to do things others know is insane.

Susan Stoker wins again!

I loved this story. It’s well plotted, paced, and totally got my adrenaline up as it came in for a final confrontation with the evil dog fighter. Susan Stoker has a way of writing a story that gives me the angst of the main characters and the feels of the eventual good outcomes. I want to stop reading sometimes but can’t! How does she do that? While I’m a huge Stella Bloom fan for the narration, Savannah Peachwood did a really good job with this story.

Ok Susan - what’s up your sleeve for me next with Piper and the children she is protecting in Securing Piper? I know I know - wait and see! 🤗🤗

Romance, Action and Doggies- Whats not to love?!

I am a huge Susan Stoker fan (she is an automatic pre-order for me), but I am a bigger dog fan. I have 3 rescued fur babies and I was worried about being about to handle a book that describes dog fighting/other abuses. If I did not already trust this author, I never would have read this. I should not have worried. Stoker is respectful and only describes enough so you get the idea. She does not revel in the pain or the gore. Ok that aside on to the reason we love these novels—the romance. : )
Sidney and Decker are sweet, believable and a good match. As with all Stoker’s heroines Sidney is intelligent and not a doormat. Yes she is damaged, as we all are, and you want to yell at her at times, but you understand why she does what she does. Decker is amazing, sexy and protective. The third member of this love fest is the rescued pittie Hannah. You will be smitten, I promise.

Narrations is as great as it can be with one talented person. Her voice lets you clearly know who is speaking and all the emotion/action/etc. is present. I was not crazy about Decker’s voice, but the only way to make it okay would have been a guy to narrate his part.

As always it is awesome to hear about past characters and get a sneak peak at the next story. Piper is intriguing…

Good !

This is a good book. It has too much dog fightinng. Sidney comes across as childish not a grown woman who has taken care of herself for years. There would be no way in that situation as the strong chacter from start of book. I have purchased newly all Susan Stoked Audible books they were great this was only good.

The handy woman gets the SEAL

Sydney Hale, handy woman and dog rescuer, met Decker ‘Gumby’ Kincaid when he came upon her fighting with the man who was mistreating a pit bull. When Gumby adopted the badly injured dog, Sydney’s heart melted a little...but she feels that she’s out of his league...after all, her baby brother is a notorious serial killer. Gumby is drawn to the brave, outspoken woman and the pair become fast friends. Can Gumby get past Sydney’s insecurities and show her that she’s worth loving? Another captivating story in this new series. Looking forward to more.

Soul searching

I loved the dynamics between Sid and Gumby. The need that Sid has to help animals is so inspirational. It comes from a horrific back story but is truly just her being a good person. Gumby tries really hard to control his alpha instinct to just force her safety. It will be a compromise that they can hope works.
