About this listen

Psychic and paranormal PI Harper Hall isn't that surprised when her business partner skips town. Really, she can't help but feel that it's her own fault for trusting a guy named Romeo in the first place. But if Harper wants to consult for the police on a high-profile case, she'll need a new partner - preferably one with some supernatural skills of his own. Enter Noah Riddick, a slayer left jobless by the legalization of vampirism. Riddick's dark secrets and shady past have forced him into exile from human society - an exile he was completely comfortable with until gorgeous and exasperating Harper waltzed into his life.

Fighting vampires, making immortal enemies, engaging in semi-sadistic interrogation techniques, and staging daring rescues - it's all in a day's work for this paranormal odd couple. But falling in love? Well, that's a little trickier - even for the semi-charmed Harper Hall.

Hope there is more to come in this series

this was a thoroughly enjoyable listen--fun and fast paced with a great narrator. This was both a new author and narrator to me and I will look for more titles from both.

Cute book

This book is mainly about a woman who has the ability to see premonitions about vampire attacks, and a guy who is a vampire slayer. Killing vampires is now illegal, so they both have lost their official jobs. They team up to solve some cases partially with the police, and the women becomes the target of a powerful vampire that they have to catch so she can be safe. Along the way, they fall in love. There was also a great side story about her best friend and another vampire.

I liked the book. It was a fairly quick light listen. It had a pretty good balance of action from the investigations/fighting with vampires and romance, though towards the end it shifted more towards only romance. I disagree with the reviewer who compared this with shades of grey (although I haven't read that and have no interest in reading it).

The main character seemed strong, capable, and confident, even though the guy in the book helped rescue her. I would have liked to see her use her premonition gift more in the story. I'd also like to see her make her PI business profitable without relying on a man as they suggests must happen - hopefully that will come in a later book. I didn't love how her boyfriend just handed her an envelope full of money at the end. There was almost a love triangle in the story, but it got sorted out cleanly, which was nice.

I also really enjoyed the relationship that her best friend had with a vampire as a side story. I wouldn't mind reading a book about the two of them.

It was a nice change of pace to have a book be good enough as a stand alone book, though there is another book in the series if you want to continue. So many books in series have cliff hangers that make them incomplete on their own. This one leaves you satisfied. If Audible gets the next book, I'll buy it.

Kept hoping it would get better

I tried so hard to fall in love with this book. I guess, for the genre it was written in, it’s passable but there were several inconsistencies in timing of events, phrases were repetitive, the characters were 2 dimensional... I listened to the whole thing to see how it all ended but, if this is a true sample of this authors books, I won’t listen/read any more of them. Sorry... I hate to leave bad reviews but it was a laborious read.

Definitely will read more by this author!

This had all the elements I appreciate in a medium-light read. I had to pay attention but I was also able to function with stuff like laundry and preparing food without losing the plot. Had a good balance of dramatic and lighter moments. Characters were likable, even one of the bad guys. And I felt the book ended in a good place, felt finished.

Would definitely try more by this author.

I’d not heard this narrator before. I really liked her, her male and female voices evenly good. She reminded me of Jill Fox.

Worth a credit

This is a cute story. In the beginning it was a little slow. It made up for slowness towards the end. Waiting for the rest of the series.

Narrator ruined it

I had to delete it and just read on Kindle instead. The narrator makes everything sound so whimsical.... doesn’t fit the story at all.

Fun

This was a fun and fast paced book. I knocked off a star for the story because I thought the romance could have been better developed. It felt a little forced, but I still enjoyed it. I gave the audio performance three stars because the narrator made everything sound chipper and cheerful. Some of the scenes called for a more serious tone and this really took me out of the story. I'll read the rest of the series if this narrator continues.

liked story better than narrator

narrator seemed like she was trying to imitate loreli king minus the snark emphasis. it kept taking me out of the story. beware that this series continues but audible only has this one book. if you have kindle unlimited you can continue the adventure in print.
