About this listen

Within the insular world of the English countryside, among struggling clerical families, husband-hunting mothers and daughters, country fools and snobs, Jane Austen found the raw material she needed to write brilliant novels widely admired for their satiric wit, subtlety and perfection of style. Sense and Sensibility is one of the best of these.

It is the story of two sisters, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, who represent sense and sensibility, respectively. When both appear to be deserted by the young men they had intended to marry, the stage is set for a delicious comedy of manners that not only showcases Austen's perception, humor and incomparable prose, but offers a splendid glimpse of upper and middle-class English society of the early 18th century.

The narrator did an ok job with everyone else’s voice except for Elinor’s. It was robotic with little inflections.

Meh narration

Like so many other books from this era, another “classic” about relationships formed and broken based on family position and wealth. Not even much in the way of a different perspective. The recording was good but a couple of the voices were so shrill as to be hard to listen to. This one is better read.

Same old story

Austen is one of my favorites. I never get tired of her books I wasn't sure about the narrator at first but quite enjoyed ir.

A good narration of a great classic

Love this book. The people in this story come alive with their problems and how they handle them. Jane Austen is a fantastic novelist.

Ok, another classic that just does nothing for me. I tried and tried but could not get interested enough to keep my mind from wondering. Finally with only just over two hours left I capitulated realizing I had no idea what was going on. ☹️ if you really like the classics then go for it but if not avoid this one like the plague!

Uggg!
