About this listen

"Never go into the deep parts of the forest, for there are many dangers there, and they will ensnare your soul."

Serafina has never had a reason to disobey her pa and venture beyond the grounds of Biltmore Estate. There's plenty to explore in her grand home, but she must take care to never be seen. None of the rich folk upstairs know that Serafina exists; she and her pa, the estate's maintenance man, have lived in the basement for as long as Serafina can remember. She has learned to sneak and hide.

But when children at the estate start disappearing, only Serafina knows who the culprit is: a terrifying man in a black cloak who stalks Biltmore's corridors at night. Following her own harrowing escape, Serafina risks everything by joining forces with Braeden Vanderbilt, the young nephew of the Biltmore's owners. Braeden and Serafina must uncover the man in the black cloak's true identity before all of the children vanish one by one.

Serafina's hunt leads her into the very forest that she has been taught to fear. There she discovers a forgotten legacy of magic - one that is bound to her own identity. In order to save the children of Biltmore, Serafina must seek the answers that will unlock the puzzle of her past.

Fun story and great audio

Loved the story! Kept me interested and excited throughout. I like to listen to books when I drive the 30-40 minutes to work and home. The performance was well done on the audio. The story was a nice historical fiction mixed with fantasy. Great for young adults to adult age. Might be a little scary at times for anyone too young. Would make a wonderful movie!

Loved it!!

This book series was a hit for the whole family. We loved it! It actually inspired us to take a trip to Asheville so we could visit Biltmore. My seven year old daughter was entranced with the place. She didn’t want to miss a thing during the tour. Her imagination was running wild creating new scenarios for the characters. I loved the narrator. She really brought it to life for us. We now have listened to all three audiobooks and have our fingers crossed for more. My only concern was after getting into the book I realized that it could get a little dark in spots. I wasn’t sure how my daughter would respond. Turns out she loved that it was spooky and thrilling at times. It didn’t seem to scare her at all. So I was relieved that we didn’t have to shelf it for later. My daughter listens to lots of audiobooks as well as reading on a daily basis. The Serafina series is definitely one of her/our very top favs! Excited for more!

Wonderful story & narrator

The author did a wonderful job of putting together the folk lore of the mountains, beauty & mystery of Vanderbilt mansion, its family & guests. Serafina is a wonderful character with all the curiosity & cleverness any child (or adult) will love reading about. Ive encouraged my grandchildren to read this book. Can hardly wait to go on another adventure with the wonderful Serafina. I hope the author finds inspiration to write many other Serafina adventures.

Fun vacation read

This is an engaging story of a charming girl and some mysterious events at the Biltmore Estate. Many of the plot twists are heavily foreshadowed, which makes the reveals less fun for me, but it makes sense as a children's book.
