Publisher's summary

Nash has got a pretty good thing going on.

A hot girlfriend who always takes him back, money whenever he needs it, the respect—no matter how grudgingly given—of his peers, and a safe place to lay his head each night when he goes to sleep. For one of the animal people working the underground of the recently rebuilt Vegas, what more could he want?

Sure, his memory is sketchy, and he hasn't a clue of where he came from or how he came to be. But living in a world of awakened gods, magic users, high-tech gadgets, monsters, and all sorts of mythical creatures, well, that's just par for the course! As a freelance runner, Nash has got a solid rep, even if it is small time. But as long as he's getting fed, having fun, and getting laid, what else is there in life?

Well, maybe that contract for picking up some gamer nerd. If he could score that one, well, that would definitely move him up.

Now, if only Coyote hadn't taken an interest in him...

I love Shadowrun.

I really enjoyed how this story reminded me of how much I liked the Shadowrun game and books in a very well written Jeckle & Hyde story.

it was good

right out front I'll simply say that I recommend this story to anybody reading this review. I'll also say that I do try and leave the review immediately after finishing the book for the first time. the reason why that's important especially for this review is that there's a couple of things that didn't quite make sense to me but it may simply be because I missed it in the first pass through. the cover of this book gives a major hint to what's going on in the story early on. I didn't particularly care for the cover and of course we've always been canceled not to judge a book by its cover so I missed it until probably a fourth of the way through the book that the main character has a split personality. now I also as a rule of thumb like to pick up the ebook if it's available through Kindle unlimited. especially with these kinds of stories sometimes the spelling of the character names is different or if I'm reading a cultivator story it's helpful to actually see the names written while hearing them pronounced. occasionally by doing this they'll be something that is in the ebook version that is not in the audio. in this case at the end of the ebook it makes it clear that this story is set approximately 100 years after the events of a trilogy written by this author titled Days of Future Past. apparently Earth was Advanced enough to have made it into space and started colonizing at least the Moon. some evil guy got control of things and there was a war with Earth and the result was an apocalypse where everyone in space died and most of the people on earth died. so this story is taking place where there's no plane travel and most of the world is devoid of people. the gods of come back along with fantasy races. there's some tech in the few cities that have survived but it hasn't spread because of reasons. the author may have had a reason for not including this in the audio and even in the ebook that segment is at the back of the book instead of at the front which would have been helpful unless you had already read the trilogy which in my case I had not. the other thing from the ebook is that the author States He intends to make this a five book series. I enjoyed the story and would be interested in the sequel for sure. when it comes to the narrator he did a good job. I've not really come up with a slick way of explaining this but I'll give it a go. I like audiobooks because I can listen to an awesome story where I'm doing monotonous chores or standing in line at the DMV or grocery shopping. as far as I'm concerned the lowest level is having Alexa read an ebook. the highest level is somebody doing like a theatrical performance with the Music and Sound effects. in between those two extremes is this new AI generated audiobooks and somebody simply reading you the book versus somebody who's performing without all the accoutrements. dead center in the middle would be this narrator's performance. it's not bad but it definitely dips down into just some dude reading you the book. now I've never come across this narrator before and maybe he's new or insert excuse wherever. like I said though I'd still be interested in coming back for a sequel. and do take note of the fact that as far as criticisms go that's really the only one I got. the rest of the story is good and entertaining at least I found it to be.

Excellent story!

I find it rare for stories to properly deal with the mythos and metaphysics of the first people and to do it well. while still weaving an interesting and compelling tale. I'm certainly going to read the rest of this series. The Bubba Likes it! Do Recommend!
