About this listen

John Doc Henry had been on the shortest, crappiest end of the stick since the first day of his life; no parents, bad foster parents, and abysmal luck at every turn.

The day his life changed started out exactly like he had come to expect. His car died on a rarely traveled road, and he broke his toe shortly after dodging the one other car on the road. When it stopped and backed up to him, the license plate read “LADYLUK”, adding insult to injury.

Now, he has a new name, a new life, and a purpose. The odds are still stacked against him, but the newly-named Doc Holyday has Luck herself on his side. With newfound confidence, he's ready to face the strange new world he has been sent to; a world similar to the “Wild West”, but with magic and supernatural creatures.

(This book contains adult situations, including but not limited to: sex, gambling, abuse, drug use, harem, and murder. It also contains graphic sex scenes, which portray elements of BDSM. You’ve been warned.)

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I'm normally a fan of Andrea Parsneau, however it's extremely difficult to get past the constant chuckling or laughing of every character. It sounds like a laugh track got stuck on repeat. super annoying
The rest of the performance is the usual for the narrator, fantastic work.

Suited for Luck

Introduction:

Greetings, inhabitants of warmer realms. I am Kiba Snowpaw, an Alpha Ice Wolf from the frozen expanse of HowlStrom, a world where winter grips us once every hundred years, and where our magic stems from the cold. As an ice mage, I've witnessed tales that would freeze your bones and warm your heart. Yet, today, I am here not to recount tales from my homeland, but to review a tale that has resonated with me as I journeyed through its narrative: "Suited for Luck" by Daniel Schinhofen.

Basic Plot Summary:

In "Suited for Luck", we follow the life of John "Doc" Henry, a man who has consistently been down on his luck. His unfortunate existence takes a turn when he's graced by the presence of Luck herself. With a new name, Doc Holyday, he embarks on a journey in a world reminiscent of the "Wild West", but with a twist - it's infused with magic and inhabited by supernatural creatures. However, be forewarned, the tale does dive into mature territories with themes of sex, gambling, and more.

Analysis/Evaluation:

Schinhofen crafts a world that is both familiar and foreign. The fusion of the Wild West with elements of fantasy creates a rich tapestry of adventure. The challenges that Doc faces are not just physical but also moral, allowing for a deeper exploration of his character.

Characters:

Doc Holyday stands out as a character shaped by his misfortunes. His transformation, both physically and mentally, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. The supporting characters add depth to the story, each with their unique quirks and personalities.

Structure:

The novel unfolds with a clear structure, guiding the reader through Doc's initial struggles, his encounter with Luck, and his subsequent adventures in the magical Wild West. There's a rhythmic flow to the narrative, interspersed with moments of tension, relief, and revelation.

Impact:

The story resonated with me, not just as an Ice Wolf, but as a being who understands the value of perseverance. It's a tale that speaks of hope, change, and the unpredictable nature of luck.

Hook and Thesis:

The intriguing blend of the Wild West with fantasy elements serves as a captivating hook. The underlying thesis revolves around the transformative power of luck and how one's destiny can change in the most unexpected ways.

Praise and Critique:

I commend the vivid world-building and the depth of characterization. Andrea Parsneau's narration breathes life into the story, enhancing its emotional impact. However, some might find the adult themes jarring, and they could have been integrated more subtly into the narrative.

Evaluation:

Drawing from the echoes of fellow listeners, the audiobook has garnered both acclaim and critique. While many laud the storyline and performance, some felt certain elements detracted from the overall experience. As with any tale, it's essential to approach it with an open mind and judge it on its merits.

Comparison:

While unique in its essence, "Suited for Luck" brings to mind other tales where ordinary individuals are thrust into extraordinary circumstances, forcing them to adapt and evolve. The blend of realism with fantasy is reminiscent of works like Stephen King's "The Dark Tower".

Conclusion:

"Suited for Luck" is a tale of transformation, adventure, and the unpredictable dance of destiny. While it might not be for everyone, it offers a fresh take on blending genres and delivers a story that's both entertaining and thought-provoking. As I return to the icy realms of HowlStrom, this tale will remain with me, reminding me that even in the coldest of winters, a spark of luck can ignite a fire of change.

May the frost of HowlStrom guide your paths and the tales of other worlds warm your souls.

This is not your typical science fiction or fantasy novel but rather something in between. Inventive plot and a cool world

Loved Andrea's Performance!

no spoilers! If you've listened and liked Apocalypse Gates, this, to me felt a little like Alvin was in the wild west with Fantasy Characters. probably since Andrea also read the first two novels.

There are adult/sex scenes in this book which is made pretty obvious by reading the info page, but it seems some listeners aren't as observant as others.

Some of the Author's other books, the protagonist seems too over powered and very lucky. I think for this story it worked out pretty well.

I did feel like the story was cut short. I imagine this is because there's going to be multiple books in the series, it just seemed to me that it stopped at a weird place.

Another great story

Another great story by Daniel. I feel its a tad bit faster paced in people accepting the MCs power then some of his other stories but love the world as usual, and always appreciate his progressive thinking.
