About this listen

A USA Today Bestseller

In the underground Fae realm, only the strongest and most ruthless have power—but a young human woman forced into a life of servitude is about to change everything.

Kenna Heron is best known in her village for being a little wild—some say half feral—but she’ll need every ounce of that ferocity to survive captivity in the cruel Fae court.

Trapped as a servant in the faeries’ underground kingdom of Mistei, Kenna must help her new mistress undertake six deadly trials, one for each branch of magic: Fire, Earth, Light, Void, Illusion, and Blood. If she succeeds, her mistress will gain immortality and become the heir to Earth House. If she doesn’t, the punishment is death—for both mistress and servant.

With no ally but a sentient dagger of mysterious origins, Kenna must face monsters, magic, and grueling physical tests. But worse dangers wait underground, and soon Kenna gets caught up in a secret rebellion against the inventively sadistic faerie king. When her feelings for the rebellion’s leader turn passionate, Kenna must decide if she’s willing to risk her life for a better world and a chance at happiness.

Surviving the trials and overthrowing a tyrant king will take cunning, courage, and an iron will... but even that may not be enough.

"Servant of Earth is a darkly enchanting page-turner laden with sensuality and intrigue. Sarah Hawley's haunting prose deftly guides readers through twist after heartstopping twist in a world as dangerous as it is richly built, featuring fascinatingly complex characters and the more sinister side of magic—and of love. The character building is amazing! It’s so refreshing to have a fae story that isn’t like any others. Great listen!

Amazing storyline

This book was INCREDIBLE. I've been getting so jaded with all these so-called romantic fantasy books that end up just being a fantasy-themed romance with very little actual fantasy plot, and/or what fantasy plot here is actually just flavoring for a romance plot (I. E. Love conquers all, the characters seem to lack agency, and there's far too heavy of a focus on the romantic interest that starts from like page 3 and it's continuously just about those two characters and barely anything else..). This scratched the itch I've been having for a true romantic fantasy novel with real agency, female friends/the female character having HER OWN friends and not just some inner circle of the male love interest's friends, it's intrigue rather than the tired enemies-to-lovers trope, there's great villains, great grey characters and everybody has an interesting character arc, complex character traits, etc. I will say that I saw every twist coming from a mile away except one (which was more of a minor one tbh), but that still didn't feel disappointing for me since it was such a good story. Also, love love LOVED that the woman taken to faerie land ended up BEING the handmaid servant this time instead of just becoming some lady that gets waited on hand and foot - so much more interesting and less cringe and problematic. Just incredible, I literally can't wait for the sequel and don't know what I'm going to do with myself til September lol.

Also - good spice!! Very well written. Good job Sarah Hawley! (p.s. The narrator was way too slow to me but once I sped it up she was great)

I would give it 100 stars if I could

really impressed by the story and how the narrator brought it to life. Mia did an excellent job! I'm not big on books involving trials, but this one had a great twist that made it all worth it. Can't wait until book 2!

Amazing!!

The story was magnificent. Just the right mix of all the things (intrigue, romance, magic, world building, etc.) It’s low on spice for a fantasy romance but there’s a bit and it’s worth the LONG wait. The trigger warning list is pretty long because it’s an incredibly involved story but…it’s fantastic and worth it!

Phenomenal Story!!!

I adore this book and have read it many times. That said, the performance was difficult to liken to at times as the over-enunciation sounded quite spitty.

Love this story! Performance was spitty.

Love this different twist on Fae and Magic and can’t wait until the next book is released

Amazing, overall amazing

Servant of Earth was amazing. Great action and political intrigue, amazing world building and character development, a great, fleshed out plot, and even some good spice! If you enjoyed the Throne of Glass series and A Court of Thorns and Roses, you will love this book (like, seriously, I will be deeply surprised if you don't). Imagine if the world building of ToG met the events of under the mountain in ACOTAR, and that Amarantha was a villain that was actually worth hating... yeah ♥️ just give this a listen, promise you'll love it. Can't wait for book two!

Fans of ToG and ACOTAR should RUNNNN to read this!

I was disappointed to not see more evolvement with Cannon but hopeful for his character and relationships become more evolved. Story and plot was very interesting but characters could use more depth but again… story and performance was engaging. Despite desired individual character complexity/depth (like more on their background narrative of each person and spoon fed history of houses/fae kingdomas ); the plot of was very captivating as our unlikely heroine was in constant survival mode and the suspense around each scenario was jarring but addicting!!!

I cannot believe I have to wait for 2nd book this long…
I’ll be on the edge … desperately awaiting & with bated breath to see how Kenna’s rebirth will literally upturn 1000 years of fae tradition!!!

Amazing!!! 5 Stars🫶🏼on all Accounts!
