About this listen

A James Patterson Presents novel

From the number one New York Times and USA Today best-selling author of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series comes a new blockbuster series....

Two sisters.
One brutal murder.
A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself...
And an intoxicating romance.

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe - witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family's renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin...desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister's killer and to seek vengeance at any cost - even if it means using dark magic that's been long forbidden.

Then, Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia's side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women's murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems....

Critic reviews

"An intoxicating, tightly plotted feast for the senses with a dramatic cliffhanger."—Kirkus Reviews

"Lyrical writing and an immersive atmosphere accompany a well-built world rooted in 19th-century Palermo, especially evocative descriptions of food prepared in the family's restaurant, while intriguing plot twists round off the novel."—Publishers Weekly

"The characters are richly drawn; the worldbuilding is smart, based on historical events and infused with magic; and the page-turning plot is a force to be reckoned with. Food, family, magic, and romance are threaded into this propulsive story, making it a thrilling, wondrous, and atmospheric tale."—Booklist

I can’t imagine a better voice actor for this character.

Her tone fit so well. I don’t think a more English voice actor could have done justice to this. I am kicking myself that I didn’t wait till the sequel came out.

Need more!!!

I loved this book and the narrators voice/performance! The ending was such a shock though and I’m still not sure how to feel about it. I can’t wait for book 2!

This was a SHOW

WOW! My first audiobook finished and I am impressed. Quite a performance from start to finish, the narrator did a phenomenal job and got me hooked into Kerri’s story. I loved the Italian culture and hell lore used. I loved that there was always something happening that brought you further into the plot. I am eager for the sequel now! And I’m definitely buying the book too!

This book was so good, from start to finish. The book was methodical and full of mystery and intrigue. Really can’t wait for book 2s release in 2021!

Amazing

Seriously one of the best Audio books I’ve ever listened to. Not surprising considering it’s presented by James Patterson but still, it’s amazing. And the end credits are worth listening to.

I enjoyed it but some things felt forced

Overall this was a fantastic book, I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the story and how things unfolded. Yes the main character isn't the brightest at times but that adds to the unfolding of things. However there were a few moments that things felt like they just happened because they happened rather than naturally occuring in the book which is why i'm not giving it full stars. The writing at times could be better. The relationship between the main character and the enemy love interest could be more organic but overall I enjoyed it. It helped pass the time and I look forward to the next book. It you are looking for something revolutionary this isn't it but it is fun being immersed in Italy's food and culture which is something that I don't get to experience often. Again I recommend it if you have a few extra credits and the time, it's a fun book.

Sinfully Enchanting

I’m looking forward to reading book two! The pacing is mildly slow and took some getting used to but overall I enjoyed the engagement of the main character with the Prince’s of Hell. The use of personal power and it’s importance shined throughout the story. Great for lovers of demons, witches and suspense!

Wonderful story and fantastic narration!

Ms. Calin's narration of this intriguing, captivating, young adult story was so enjoyable, I lost sleep as I was unable to stop at any time. And, to Ms Maniscalco, you have captured an old woman as a new fan. I have already purchased 3 more of your books.

Keep the story flowing!

Bought this book as a last resort. I needed something to listen to on my long drive and none of my favorite authors had anything out I hadn’t already listened to. First listen and now Kerri Maniscato is added to that list! Is scratched my head the first chapter but did not want to put it down after. Love the story of the obvious budding romance, the lurking twists and Marisa Calvin ~ all I can say is you go girl! I cannot wait until the next book. Disappointed I have to wait so long! A must read if you like stories of supernatural.
