About this listen
March 1294. With David and Llywelyn in Ireland, the rule of Wales and England has fallen to Math and Anna. Unbeknownst to them, however, rebellious barons have tried to assassinate David and thrown Ireland into civil war. When the treachery reaches across the sea and touches Anna, she finds herself at the center of a conspiracy that stretches from Dublin to Edinburgh - and only her actions and choices stand between her family and the destruction of everything they've worked so hard to build.
Shades of Time takes place simultaneously with Outpost in Time, the previous book in the After Cilmeri series.

April 1284. As a newly widowed lady-in-waiting to the very pregnant Queen Eleanor of England, Catrin never expected to return to Wales again. She was definitely unprepared to be confronted with murder when she got there - or to find herself face-to-face with Rhys, the childhood friend she lost 20 years before. Rhys had never intended to return home either, but a lifetime of war has deposited him right back where he started - impoverished and owing service to Catrin's older brother.

Story
The small country of Medalon lies between the vast nation of Karien in the north and the nations of Fardohnya and Hythria in the south. For centuries the Medalonians co-existed peacefully with the Harshini, a magical race that abhors killing. But now they are gone and in their place the Sisters of the Blade rule Medalon from the Citadel. An elite army of Defenders enforces the Sisterhood's oppressive rule. The Harshini and their demons are believed to be extinct and Medalon has an uneasy peace with its northern and southern neighbours.

Story
Magic, adventure, mystery, and romance combine in this epic debut in which a young princess must reclaim her dead mother’s throne, learn to be a ruler - and defeat the Red Queen, a powerful and malevolent sorceress determined to destroy her. On her 19th birthday, Princess Kelsea Raleigh Glynn, raised in exile, sets out on a perilous journey back to the castle of her birth to ascend her rightful throne. Plain and serious, a girl who loves books and learning, Kelsea bears little resemblance to her mother, the vain and frivolous Queen Elyssa.

The perfect neverending story.
Every time i pick up another book in the series, i wonder if it could possibly be as good as the previous and every time since the first i am always pleasantly surprised. I am so glad i gave it a chance otherwise id be missing out.
On this occasion, i sadly had this read in a day as i was sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time wondering what was coming next. What i truly like about each book is how they have their own stories and always wraps up nicely by the end while leaving you a taste of what could follow.
Is there and end? Hope not.

Amazing ride - need more!
I'm so thrilled that we got to journey with Anna this time. The past few books has left her kind of off doing her own thing (which is fine) but it's nice that she's definitely not relegated to "supporting cast" only and is actually a part of the whole. From the moment this book started playing last night, I couldn't stop listening to it. I paused a few times to make dinner (ah the joys of adulthood), but aside from that I was up until 3am just listening. It was that captivating. I'd actually started listening to it a week ago at work, but of course I couldn't pay much attention to it, yeah yeah I know, so since it was Saturday night and I didn't work Sunday - I figured it was time. So worth it.
Laurel's narrations are as excellent as always to go along with Sarah's amazing stories. Granted there were a few times I was wondering if she dropped out of "character" so to speak and just read because the story was getting into some juicy bits. Could have just been my perception though.
The ending leaves you hoping the next book is delivered soon. Like you know, now? ;) At the very least, can we have some spoilers?! Come on!

This series gets better with each installment.
Shades of Time brings devious politics and power hungry hubris into focus with both modern and medieval twists. Picking up on the dramatic ending of the previous book, Outpost in Time we learn what was happening back home in Wales while the King David was in Ireland trying to broker a new era. Laurel Schroeder as narrator is amazing and Sarah Woodbury’s storytelling writing is captivating. My favorite book of the whole series so far!

The Adventure Continues... Earth 1 & Earth 2...
Once again, Sarah Woodbury, has brought us through time to and from the alternate universe middle ages to 2022. We are reintroduced to familiar and new characters that help Anna and Kind David navigate turning the situations of both worlds around to a better way of co-existing... maybe. I think Sarah's ability to fully develop her stories so well that it is very much like visiting old friends and making new ones. Weaving actual Earth history with alternate middle age history that hopefully will be a better outcome.

Great Story, kept getting distracted
I love the After Cilmeri Series and everything Sarah Woodbury writes!! I have listened to this entire series and my only complaint with this one is the narrator has gotten too breathy, if that’s a word! I found myself distracted and having to go back and listen to sentences over because it bothered my so much to hear the little puff of air that ended every sentence. But the story is great, I love how these books flow & following the adventures of David, Anna & their family. Other than the breathiness, the narrator is fantastic, giving each character their own voice. It helps to keep track of who is talking and makes the listening very enjoyable. I will continue to buy every one that comes out!

Another great book in this awesome series
I absolutely adore this series. Obsessed by the concept of time travel and medieval times. Rich in history, character development, plot twists. I'm so into the series that I feel like if I could only time travel I would meet them all and they would be my best friends - lol. Narration is great too!

Something of a filler between books
This was not quite up to the rest of the series but probably a good transition. Narrator fell down some on her use of accents. I kept wondering about the Pakistani in Wales.

Great story continues with this volume!
Would you consider the audio edition of Shades of Time (The After Cilmeri Series) (Volume 12) to be better than the print version?
I like the Audio best because it fits in my lifestyle. I am able to "listen" more than to read and I don't want to miss the story.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
This series would make a great movie series . . .
