About this listen

From the bestselling author of Mrs. Rochester’s Ghost comes the chilling story of a young woman who returns to her haunted childhood home to unravel the deadly mysteries of her family’s past.

Ava grew up in a haunted mansion, envied by all her friends. But when her mother died mysteriously there, the thrills of Blackworth Mansion became nightmares. Ava never accepted that her mother perished from natural causes, but no one would believe her.

Seventeen years later, Ava returns home to unravel the truth of her mother’s death—and her own demons quickly follow. Her estranged and vindictive father may be stalking her. Her secretive new sister-in-law lands on her doorstep with troubles of her own. And then there’s the strange girl who may or may not be haunting the grounds. Even Ava’s romance with her first crush is shadowed by her suspicions.

When Ava makes a terrifying discovery on the property, she must decide just how far into the past she’s willing to go. Some secrets can be deadly—especially the ones Ava’s kept hidden in the dark.

So good!

I truly enjoyed this book the storyline is just so dreamy and yet at the same time so suspenseful and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Awful narrator

Does the narrator need an inhaler? She gasps so severely and loudly after every sentence! I seriously worry for her health if saying a couple words makes her gasp like that. I’m also surprised with the amt of money I pay Audible every month that they can’t edit out those noises or pay for better narrators… it was so distracting that I didn’t think I was going to make it through the book. That’s super sad because the story itself was pretty good. Unfortunately when all is said and done, it’s the distraction of the narrators gasping breath that I will remember most about this book. I recommend reading this one - don’t waste a credit to hear this version!!!

GREAT BOOK!

The fact there was a haunted house is what grabbed my attention but the characters certainly kept it. I developed a theory in the first few chapters and found in the end, I was spot on but that didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the book and my only disappointment was the lack of haunts in the haunted house.

GREAT Author, Awesome story

I pride myself on figuring everything out in a myatery long before the book is half over. While I did figure out a good bit, the details were a bit vague ...v enough that the ending surprised me. I will be following Lindsay Margot from now on. Thank you, Lindsay, for a most enjoyable read.

Story is great but the narrator is not

The story is great! It keeps you guessing and re-examining your guesses. The narrator(s) though drive me absolutely insane. I’m not sure if “Ava” is trying to sound breathy after every sentence but it makes her sound panicked the entire time. Sarah’s character is similar. It makes me wish I would’ve just bought the physical book and read it myself.

Primary narrator

is bothersome. I found myself listening to HOW she read rather than WHAT she read. Breathy ending to sentences. No emotion. Flat. IMO, it took away from the story. I will avoid her narrations.
The story was good with some twists. I would recommend it.

Engaging from the start

I think I’ve found a new favorite author! Captivating from the first chapter. Twists and turns and just when you think you had it figured out….it does a 180.

Good book

It's different than I thought. I thought it would be ghosts and such. Ghosts are mentioned however the story goes a completely different route.
I liked it a lot.

Loved it

Suspenseful plot, great performance! Very rarely does it happen that all the narrators turn out to be awesome, yet that is the case here. The narrators made this book even more enjoyable. I could not finish Lindsay Marcott's first book due to poor narration. But this book is absolutely a 5 star.
