About this listen

Having grown up with a port-wine birthmark on her face and neck, Quinn Dixon’s heard them all. Her own mother couldn’t bear to touch her, let alone strangers. Years of stares and insults from everyone from classmates to foster families have made her understandably reluctant to trust. So when John comes along, of course he couldn’t be interested in more than a brief affair. He’ll get sick of all the gawking and whispers soon enough and leave her…just like everyone else.

John “Driftwood” Trettle was captivated by Quinn the moment they met. After months of skirting around their attraction, one pivotal evening finds John seizing the reins and refusing to be denied a chance to prove he’s worthy of Quinn’s time, her trust, and her love. To show her he’ll have her back, always, and defend her against anyone cruel or stupid enough to hurt his woman.

But he can’t protect against an unknown threat. Even if it wears a familiar face....

Holy Smokes!!

John aka, Driftwood and Quinn make a power couple you don’t expect! I loved, love, loved this story.

There were a few times that the characters get so dang real. These could be people you hang out with on a daily basis, then a few times I was glad they were just characters in a book because there were a few times where I wanted to smack them both, seriously! I digress... lol

I couldn’t stop listening! This was a one day read/listen for me. As are most of Sudan’s books. Hot. Intense and a whole lot of wtf moments are ahead of anyone brave enough to step into John and Quinn’s story. It’s a ride well worth the ups and downs!

Beauty is more than skin deep

Quinn and Driftwood’s story. I was intrigued by these two in the previous novel and was excited to hear their story. As always, Stoker does not disappoint. She is SO good at weaving an interesting story that often has a person that society views as other—differently abled, socially challenged, etc. I love that she writes love stories about flawed people since we can all relate. The beauty in her characters shine through in who they and how they look. Also you learn along the way, I knew absolutely nothing about port wine birthmarks before listening to this story.

I have the same complaint about all of her novels, they are too captivating, and it is hard to stop listening.

Looking forward to Taco getting his much deserved HEA.

Recommended

I was reluctant to hear this story. Not because I had any doubt about Susan Stoker's talents as a writer. As someone who has been bullied and belittled, I am sensitive to those types of behaviors. I knew this story would include it. I appreciate that Ms. Stoker takes on subjects that are hard hitters in society, bringing them out into the open. Human trafficking, bullying, prejudice, entitlement, etc. This is story is another. I recommend this story but if your as sensitive as me, bring a few kleenex.
