About this listen

Let the world cower in fear, for the Dark Lord has returned!

My name is Robert Grailmont. Since I was young, I felt a call to serve, to be a respectable and dependable leader. But when my ambitions were derailed by corruption and greed, I found a new calling—one from another world.

"Dark Lord, we need you!"

Now I must take up the crown. Duskhaven, the land of my ancestors, was conquered and enslaved by Alruna, Goddess of Light. With the blessing of the Goddess of Night, I shall retake our land and bring forth Ascendant Queens, my lovers and avatars of darkness’ might.

This epic tome contains all three books in the Dark Lord’s Commands series. Dare you plunge into night eternal?

Narrator was Enjoyable, Book not so much

I want to start off by saying the narrator did a fine job with telling the story. There were a few times where I questioned the pronunciation of a few worlds but over all she was enjoyable to listen to.
The biggest problem with the book was the story. The MC is constantly going on "detailed" explanations on their actions or some event that happened when a short or simple explanation would have sufficed. There was constant reference to the book 'The Prince' with little in the way of actually using it. The MC isn't managing a kingdom or being a lord over it, he is more like an adventurer. Going from this location to the next on some quest to try and bring back a kingdom from ruin.
I can't recommend this book as I haven't finished the whole series but quit towards the end of the second book.

A great book and price

This is a steal with the amount of content included, all 3 book for a total of 32 hours. Mc is a honest politician until one day it goes bad for him and he gets transferred to another world. The women are older, around 30-40. It’s nice to see some diversity and they are well detailed. Has nice spicy bits and good plot, would definitely give this a go if you are still on the fence about it

so glad to have the full story

I hate buying the single stories because I like to take in everything at once so this was a great option

Fantasy Story with Fantasy Logic

Some here have complained about the narrator's mispronunciation of fringe English words(true)...

But as for me? That wasn't an issue. People say words wrong all the time. Whatever.

I couldn't get past the fantastical premise, motivations, and characters.

MC has 1 hour to prepare to go to a new world and all they bring is... a suit and tie.
MC takes paragraphs of "inner dialogue" to explain mundane, seemingly pedantic details. We readers don't need an explanation on how to woo others(which this book doesn't do well explaining anyways).
MC uses the royal "we" often, for absolutely no reason.
Women just fall into his lap. They are a means to an end.
MC positions and postures, explaining these intricate political moves that are complete hogwash and don't work in real life.
MC doesn't TRULY struggle. Oh, the struggle is there. But it's manufactured.
MC tries to prove how down-to-earth he is but just comes across like a senile old man hesitant to lead.

Ultimately, I couldn't invest.
It felt like the author didn't know a thing about politics. Almost akin to an author who tries to write a military book, knows nothing about the military, and butchers the premise and execution.
Yeah... author knows nothing about politics. Or Charisma. It's glaringly obvious.

So, I returned it. But who knows?! It's a lot of book for just one credit. Give it a try yourself and if you found it as mediocre as I did, it's an easy 5 minutes to get your money back.

Pleasant surprise

As with many books in this genre, I found the beginning rather slow and had difficulty getting into it. However, I found the whole series very interesting had unpredictable, twists, and the end wrapped up very nicely.

A good story at a great value

Book 1 Review – 6/14/2022
Starting out the story appears to be your standard portal adventure. If there is one critique in the beginning, it is that the first chapter is written so well that it is almost a shame that our hero does not get justice. The point of the first chapter is to strip our hero of any ties that would make him want to stay on earth. He is, like the blurb states, betrayed by his fellows in political society. He heeds a call for help which he receives due to his bloodline and answers having only ever wanted to help people. He arrives in a wasteland and soon discovers that he was not the first of his line to answer the call, but his cowardly cousin ran off shortly after arriving in the new world. Time moves faster in this world than on earth, but how would you know from his perspective. The world he is now in is a place where gods clash, and a new pantheon was born. It is titled as the four prime evils and essentially the dark and the light while getting along at first, drift apart. You see in this world the faith of the followers affects the gods so as the followers of light become more fanatical so too does the deity they worship. The followers of that faith turn on the others and it is our hero's job to restore the dark deity and her people back to what they once were. To restore balance to the world. Our hero is married to his first love interest by the end of chapter 2. Our hero is a fan of Machiavelli’s the Prince and is moving to establish himself rapidly. I will not say anything more about the story itself as I do not want to spoil anything but as the title of this review states, I do recommend the story. I am interested in seeing how it unfolds. Book two is currently available in eBook form. The author is arguably a small-time author. It appears that he has written thirteen books thus far with three audiobooks and a fourth audiobook on its way. The reviews are relatively low in quantity, not quality in comparison to others but such as the fate of an indie author at least in the beginning. The cover art is intriguing all around when looking at his other works. The narrator is one in which I am unfamiliar with and in fact this is the first book I have gone through by both this author and narrator. I tend to take it easy on the first book of any series as they tend to be shaky endeavors generally speaking. For the first book of a new series, I think the author and the narrator did a good job. I look forward to their future work.

Book 2 Review – 7/28/2022
I always keep my head on a swivel for anything new and entertaining. I remember the first book fondly and I'm glad to say the second is the improvement that I was hoping for. To be clear, I think that any sequel should be everything that made the first one great and then some. The narrator was new to me from the first go around. She did just as good a job this time too. I'm interested in what else this author has to offer, and I look forward to future performances by the lady narrator. Lastly, I'm just going to say thank you to everybody who had a hand in bringing this book to us the audible listeners.

Book 3 Review – 10/13/2022
Right out front I'm going to say that I recommend this series. When it comes to reviewing a sequel, I am looking for everything that made the first book worth reading and then some. That doesn't change for me as the series continues. I was hooked early on and at least for me I intend to continue on with the series. I enjoyed the story telling and I enjoyed the performance from the narrator. Well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing the story to us the audible listeners.
