Publisher's summary

The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Adapted by Richard Dinnick.

Young Dr. Mortimer ventures from Devonshire to Baker Street with news of the death of his friend, Sir Charles Baskerville. Can it really be that the grisly legend of the hound of the Baskervilles might have something to do with the case?

Holmes will have none of it, but even he must accept that dark forces are at work. Dark forces that, it seems, Dr. Watson must face alone...afoot!

Critic reviews

"The real revelation is Nicholas Briggs's performance as Holmes. Confident and assured, yet understated, and shot through with just the right amount of emotion, bravado and eccentricity, Briggs has delivered one of the definitive portrayals of the character...along with Rathbone, Brett and Lewellyn." ( Mass Movement Magazine)
"Nicholas Briggs and Richard Earl, a formidable, intelligent duo, who make the most of their characters. Watson is especially important in the Big Finish productions, as his narration underpins the story to a greater extent than I can recall in any other such audio drama, and Richard Earl is fully equal to the task. This production of The Hound is nail-bitingly exciting, as it should be...." ( The Sherlock Holmes Journal)

Brilliant Performances

This dramatisation will have you on the edge of your seat as you follow Watson and Holmes across the fog shrouded moors surrounding Baskerville Hall. An outstanding production which captures the original story with great fidelity.

Excellent Dramatization of a Classic

I'm not usually a fan of dramatising classic works. Too many producers of such projects take great liberties with the source material. I understand that some works need to be edited for length, but creating new scenes/ characters is not necessary. This excellent audiobook does neither. it is as close to the source as possible.

The narration is top-shelf. The characters are perfectly cast. I strongly encourage those interested in Sherlock Holmes, the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Victorian-era crime novels will find this book worth the time!

The Quintessential Adaptation

Anyone familiar with the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created fictional private detective Sherlock Holmes will know of the now classic novel "The Hound of the Baskervilles."

"The Hound of the Baskervilles," originally serialised in the popular British 'The Strand Magazine' from August 1901 to April 1902, has been adapted to television, film, radio dramatisation, stage production and video game.

Big Finish Productions, famed for producing numerous 'Doctor Who' audiobook CDs, released the quintessential dramatisation of "The Hound of the Baskervilles."

Narrated by accomplished voice-over talents Nicholas Briggs, Richard Earl, Samuel Clemens, John Banks and Barnaby Edwards, the Big Finish Productions dramatisation of "The Hound of the Baskervilles" features a script adapted by Richard Dinnick.

Dinnick, a British screenwriter, novelist, comic book writer and audio playwright, was responsible for penning several short stories and audio scripts. For his efforts, having won many honours and awards, the writer had benefited greatly.

If you take the time to listen to "The Hound of the Baskervilles," you'll see why it is Dinnick is one of a few go-to-people for writing such scripts.

Good, but not an audiobook

Caveat emptor: this is NOT an audiobook! It is an excellent dramatization of a terrific story, but it is not the full text of the original and therefore not what I thought I'd purchased. This needs to be made much clearer in the title synopsis.
