Publisher's summary

As a civilian contractor, Sierra Clarkson thought she’d found the perfect way to serve her country, short of joining the military...until she was kidnapped from a base in Afghanistan. Turns out terrorists don’t care if you’re a soldier or not; everyone bleeds the same. Even worse, no one knows she’s been taken. Her missing belongings point to desertion - which means no one is looking for her, either.

But someone is.

Fred “Grover” Groves never forgot the redheaded spitfire working the chow line on a base in the Afghani desert. He’d felt an instant attraction to the petite woman, a connection deep in his bones...which Sierra herself clearly didn’t feel, since she’d promised to keep in touch after his mission ended, only to ghost him - and seemingly her job.

But she didn’t.

When several contractors go missing from the base, it looks more and more like Sierra didn’t abandon her post. Then a long-lost letter proves she’d followed through on her promise to stay in touch with Grover - and suddenly, all bets are off. He bucks every protocol he’s ever known after returning to Afghanistan. If Sierra’s still alive, he’ll find her. Or die trying.

But Sierra is hardly a damsel in distress. Grover witnesses her strength and bravery firsthand in a dark desert cave. And at home, against a common enemy, he’ll witness her sheer nerve, her deep love, as they both fight for the life they’re trying to build together.

Shielding Sierra is the eighth and final book in the Delta Team Two series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliff-hanger endings.

Another great one

Loved the story and the narrator did a nice job! As always Susan Stokers books are fabulous and Shielding Sierra was a much anticipated one. I’ve been waiting for this one since Sierra was first mentioned and so happy finally got it. Virginia Rose as always did a wonderful narrating. My only wish was that we got a male narrator to read the guys part, but Virginia still does a wonderful job. Thank you so much for putting your books on audible, I love reading but sometimes it’s not possible and it’s greaT to still get the story via audible. 😊

Loved this ending..

After a year, we finally got Grover overseas to find Sierra. Sierra has been missing so long that you wondered how she was going to be when we finally got a chance to meet her. Her time in captivity was long and fraught with violence and mind games.

I agree that the captive part of the story was unlike any other I read. She was kept simply for torture purposes and remained a captive for over a year while others were tortured and presumably killed. She wasn’t sexually assaulted (which I appreciated)..and since she had a psychology degree she used some of her knowledge to stay alive. After her rescue, her recovery was..different. I liked the camp idea and appreciated her trying to go slow with her attraction to Grover, but her recovery didn’t feel “normal”.

The climax of the story was good and crazy at the same time. The militia group being able to break into Grover’s house was a bit out there. Sierra offering herself to the group, with no triggers, was a bit out there too. I just didn’t feel like Sierra’s response to Grover’s hostage situation was genuine. I appreciate that a woman is fearful for her man, but he is Delta Force and his team was ready and able to step in. Why she thought she needed to interfere was not of a stretch for me.

After reading some of the reviews, I wondered what the “racial” issues were and what made so many people annoyed by the story. Well, after reading the story, I didn’t feel that the story was over politicized. I also feel that the story is just that, a story. I wasn’t looking for authenticity or reality, but maybe others were. For me, sure, there were many moments where “normal” was not at play. As a story, I liked it and enjoyed the glimpse into the future for all of the couples.

We touched upon a lot of diversity and understanding in this series and I appreciated it.

Absolutely loved series

I have now finished both series in audible books, and have loved them! Susan Stoker is by far one of my all time favorites, I love these military heroes. I enjoy following characters from the Navy Seal series she has and how there is crossover in the books. Must read series, Seals and Delta teams!
