About this listen

The Johnstone hero with the heavenly name - and the hellish task of living up to it - Perley Gates - takes on a gang of cold-blooded killers to save the soul of a small Western town....

They say that home is where the heart is. And no one knows that better than Perley Gates. After helping the lovely Miss Emma Slocum reunite with her sister's family in Bison Gap, Perley can't wait to rejoin his own kin at the Triple-G Ranch. No sooner does Perley settle in when he receives an alarming telegram from Bison Gap. Emma's brother-in-law has been murdered. Her sister wants justice. And Perley is their only hope to get it....

Perley can't refuse a family in need. So he saddles up with his salty cowhand Possum Smith and heads to Bison Gap. He notices that the town's new sheriff is acting suspicious - and likely in cahoots with the local gang of deadly outlaws. In no time at all there's a target on Perley's back - and the vicious gang leader is calling all the shots. Justice may be hard to find in a town this wicked. But vengeance is swift - straight out of the Gates....

I’m a western fanatic. I don’t care to watch or read or listen to anything else. I’m so glad I found Perley Gates and this series.

Hooked

Good story of a gun hand who has a good heart, interesting and fun to follow. Don’t like it when it gets a bit burial in the killing, but it more mellow than some of the other books I have read from the same author. Overall I would recommend it .

Good storyline

I only wish that the different voices were more distinct. However it was still a great book.

I like the fun of the series. Perley is easy going and ethical, while entering unexpected adventures with friends, new and old. I look forward to the next story.

I enjoyed the story, but the climatic scene was over so fast, it was disappointing.

The difficult part was the narrator. Great voice for all the older cowboys, but even the young men sounded old. When he did the voices of women, they all sounded like older high-pitched men. He read very well but his voice does not lend to young men or women. I had a hard time listening to that for the whole story.

Everyone Sounds Old

Nothing to dislike: entertaining with interesting story and good presentation. Would recommend if you like westerns.

I like the storyline and also like the way everything is written unfortunately I'm not real keen about the narrator he does a good job but I'm not sure why I'm don't like his voice but it's a meat problem out of him problem he does a very good job of narrating it's just his voice and how he drags the words out

Just the write amount of frontier humor, humility and hate. The narrator did a great job with the voices.

Great western story!

poor parley no one appreciates him. his uncanny ability to emerge victorious in very dire circumstances should be applauded and lauded throughout the land. but alas it is not.
