Publisher's summary

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant weaves an intricate tapestry of magic, secrecy, and ultimate desire.

Passion will test the boundaries of life and death.

Bronwyn Stewart knows heartache. Death and danger have haunted her every step, but she's prepared for what's hunting her. Or as prepared as she can be. There's only one outcome—and she's ready for it. But a wickedly handsome Druid from her past returns and refuses to let her face the oncoming battle alone. He stirs something long buried within her. For the first time in years, a spark ignites within her that soon turns into a blaze that can't be extinguished.

Forced to leave his beloved isle years ago to protect his family, Elias MacLean fears he'll never see his home again. But Fate has other ideas. When a mission leads him back to Skye to investigate a rash of Druid murders, he finds another mystery to unravel—that of a gorgeous, reclusive drough. With foes lurking around every corner and an undeniable hunger that grows with every kiss, Elias risks it all for the woman he's fallen for. Together they unleash an all-consuming passion that won't be denied.

Contains mature themes.

Another wonderful book

I love it when Donna makes interesting characters out of “historically bad” species. Bronwyn is just such a character, she is Skye Drough. What would push a Sky Druid to become Drough? Though she is no princess, only a Knight can save her—Elias. This section of the Dark Universe is coming into focus with this book, I personally can’t wait for Donna to take us on this ride.

Enjoying this series

This second installment did not skimp. I actually liked it better than the first. I have read most of the Dragon Kings but none of the Reapers and although they are referenced I don’t feel you have to have read them all. Plus who can keep up with all the characters? Not me.

Shoulder the Skye

Elias is trying to find out who is killing Druids and clear is name. Bronwyn is hated on Skye because of what she has had to do to survive. The enemies on Skye are adding up, but are they all working together? I love the way Donna Grant ties all her Dark Universe books together. Seeing the Warriors and Balladyn helping the Skye Druids. Since the Reapers books have come to an end, getting to see Balladyn and check in with him is a real treat. I really wanna know what is up with Edie. That is my biggest question from this book.

Enjoying the new series

This is the second book in the new Skye Druids series and I am enjoying the new series. Many of the characters are new, but there are several cross-over characters from the Reapers and the Dark World Series. I always love seeing familiar characters and as this is set on the Isle of Skye the location is familiar as well. This is not a stand alone novel, although the relationship between the main characters does wrap up nicely, and will be somewhat confusing if you start here. There is also a continuing mystery that is not concluded so beware of a cliffhanger.

Ruth Urquart does a great job with all of the agents and multiple characters.

Absolutely loved this one

The storyline arc continues through the series yet each couples journey in each book is so relevant to the end goal. It’s building blocks to overcoming evil. I absolutely loved this pairing. The Knights are a great addition to the overall storyline.
I received an ARC of the written book but then purchased the audiobook as I love to close my eyes and just absorb the story. So this is an honest review.
Loved it~ Donna Grants writing style has brought me back time and time again. Her magical worlds are incomparable and second to none.

Shoulder the Skye

Great book 2 of this new series of the Skye Druids. I love that Donna Grant so gracefully touched on the top of suicide and how that greatly affects the families left behind. There are other avenues for those considering suicide if they but reach out. Always con stall options and remember, there is truth in the saying that "sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees." Most times, only people outside of the situation are able to clearly see and suggest other alternatives that don't necessarily devastate the family.

To be continued

I hate books that don’t complete themselves, even if they are part of a series. Books are not soap operas. Narration was good. The wrap-up in the epilogue was frustrating.

I tried . DNF

I wanted to like this. I really did. I held out all the way to the halfway mark, which was extremely challenging.

This was so meh. There was both too much and nothing happening simultaneously. Nothing of note or importance happens right up until I DNF close to the halfway mar. However, the stories all over the place showing us a bunch of boring and irrelevant happenings. Mostly dialogue. This book is like 90% dialogue. I have no idea how this series has such high ratings. It's just bad. Soooo boring. I'd tune out constantly and have to rewind over and over.

I could barely tell you what this is about because it was really THAT hard to get into. There's no clear story arc. It was just such a waste of time. Just conversations between MCs then it'd jump to a conversation between side characters, then back to MCs... you get it.

I don't understand how anyone wasn't bored with this book.

I can't tell if the narration was also boring or if the story was so bad that no narrator could've saved it. Her performance is good, but her voice is just kind of boring, so paired with an extremely boring story, it was just painful.
