About this listen

Book three in the best-selling Alexis Silver, Mermaid Detective series!

Alexis Silver has worked as a PI long enough to have many strange clients try to hire her...but the CIA is a first.

People have secrets, mermaids more than most. When a CIA agent shows up claiming to know her biggest one, Alex finds herself at a disadvantage. However, the government wants her help. Despite being beyond the cares of mortals, she still considers herself an American and feels obligated to do what she can.

Disappearance cases are fairly routine, but a desperate thrall hiring her to find a missing vampire is a bizarre twist that piques her curiosity. Tracking down an off-the-grid undead is like being right back to the 1940s. All she’s missing is the fedora.

An inexplicable change has happened to the fabric of the universe, evidently driving some dark masters insane. An Ohio-class nuclear missile sub is about the worst place imaginable for a werewolf to have an existential crisis. Though mermaids aren't well equipped to fight other supernaturals, Alex isn't about to let nukes hit the US.

Even if it kills her.

The Books in This Series are Too Short!

I absolutely love this series! I can’t say it enough. The stories are great. Each book makes a good standalone, but this book did hold one storyline back, so I’m guessing that’s what the next book will be about. I hope that book is out on Audible soon. I can’t wait to listen to it. Alex Silver is a perfect hero. She’s funny and smart and follows her heart even if it makes her life a little harder. And the narrator is out of this world. I can’t compliment the narrator enough. Once you’ve listened to books read by Kelley Houston, you will be spoiled and will dislike most other narrators. Between the actual stories and the narrator, I firmly believe that these books are just too short. I enjoy the books too much to be ready to leave that world when the book ends. I’m always at a loss as to what to listen to next because nothing will compare to what I just listened to. If you haven’t started this series yet, go get the first book. What are you waiting for? It doesn’t get much better than this.

Not your typical mermaid and I absolutely love it!

Silver Quarrel is the third story in the Alexis Silver series and they just keep getting better. Alexis finds herself off trying to save a nuclear sub from a rogue werewolf for the CIA. And then, teams up with the most unlikely of allies to track down a missing vampire. This one was action packed, the audio narration is fantastic and I can't get enough. The dark masters are planning something and I can't wait to see what happens next!!

Mermaid Detective

I love this series and this was a great addition to it. Alexis Silver is a mermaid, but she's definitely not the Disney type! She was turned about 100 years ago when the ship she was on sank and she was found by a merman. Now, she is a private detective (even though she definitely doesn't need the money).

The first part of the book finds Alex working with the CIA to take down a rogue werewolf. The second part of the book focuses on her quest to find a missing vampire after she is hired by his enthralled slave. Both stories are great fun with enough humor to lighten the action involved. There is plenty of fun and emotion throughout this book and I love the interaction between Alex and her Dark Master, Lucinia.

I look forward to the next book in this series to see what happens with the strange occurrences of the being called Elizabeth. And, I would love to read more books involving the kickass vampire hunter, Emma.

The narrator is absolutely perfect for this book and her performance makes this already wonderful read even better. I can't imagine anyone else as Alexis! I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.

Fantastic, This series just keeps getting better!

When they say Big Brother is watching, they aren’t kidding and Alex finds that out up close and personal when the CIA comes calling in book three, Silver Quarrel. As if that’s not enough, someone, or something is wreaking havoc among the Dark Masters, and lets not forget the lovesick Vampiric Thrall looking for her missing love! This series just keeps getting better and better! The writing is top notch fantastic! I love that everything I need to know is clearly presented in a smooth flowing, highly entertaining manner! I’m never bored and my attention never waivers! The characters, whether popping in for a bit from the previous books ala Detective Serrano, series regulars like Alex and Lucinia, her Dark Master, or those making their first appearance in this story ala Emma the Vampire Hunter, are complete, fully developed, and feel real! They also run the gamut from extremely likable to throughly deplorable! No spoilers, you’ll have to judge whose who for yourself! As with the previous books, Silver Quarrel features multiple plots running concurrently with plenty of fast paced action. I must say that with each book I find myself being drawn deeper into both Alex’s history and her unique relationship with Lucinia, her Dark Master. I find that I want to know more, I NEED to know more. This wonderful, and at times a bit horrific, story is made all the more entrancing by truly spectacular narration. Every character is voiced clearly, consistently, emotionally, and at times heartbreakingly! There is never a doubt as to what the characters are feeling, or their state of mind. The pacing is perfect and serves to move the story along brilliantly without lagging. I am loving everything about this story, and this series. Five stars because that is all I am allowed to give!

well that was different

This contrasts differing from the previous stories. Before it was stories about detective stories with supernatural., This one had a mix of spy thriller and monster hunting. The cast remains small but the ones around are well developed. I still like the lead and supporting cast. This story was gory than previous stories but still enjoyable. I only wish if the story was a bit longer.

Sass and Character carryover

This is a reread for me and it was so good to listen to it. Kelly Huston does an amazing job narrating the book and truly brings all the characters to life. The sass between the primary character and her host is a ton of fun. And if you have read any of the Samantha moon novels the crossover of the two just made my heart so happy! I love love love when authors put two separate series characters together just like it might happen in the real world. Kudos to the authors.
Overall, a continuation to the series that is written to easily be a standalone but if you want the character development and to follow some of the side stories starting at book 1 and reading/listening through brings clarity to some of the characters
