Publisher's summary

It's been just six months since the unprovoked, brutal attack on Inoria that killed tens of thousands. The enemy has paid a price in the deep-space skirmishes since, but seems in no mind to retire. But what is the enemy's mind like? What, in the end, do they want?

Carol Hansen and her Antares shipmates are going back to solve the mystery they found at Beta Hydri, taking a retinue of academics with them.

David Powell survived Sigma's battle, dragging that battered ship to safety. Now promoted and on Columbia with his old friend Dan Smith in command, a new role and life begins for him.

Joanne Henderson's Intrepid continues its silent mission among the nearby stars, while Natalie Hayden and Ben Price begin to find connections beyond what happens inside a Sentinel.

But back at Fleet HQ, there is growing frustration about how to run a war when a light-year-per-day just doesn’t seem nearly fast enough.

Enjoyable read (listen)

The first book was good, this one is better. The character development is excellent. The book is a mixture between the opera and the battles. I found myself really caring for the characters more than the next missile launch

Far better than most

Both this book and its predecessor capture your attention quickly. The story line is unique, well crafted and read expertly. Rock Whitehouse should not be allowed to do anything other than write.

Even better

Excellent sequel. I couldn't think how it could be as good as the first, but it turns out it was better!

Loved it

I love these books. The science was still really interesting, and explored different sciences than the first book. The suspense really picked up toward the end, too, hope the third one comes out on audio soon!
