About this listen

This is a dark and gritty war book that is based on my time in the military.

We see this erupting world through the eyes of a seasoned warrior as he is pushed to the edge of his humanity. Simple Machines takes us deep into the life of the American Army Ranger as he must navigate a combat zone. This is a war novel with the rush of battle, agony of loss, and courage of the undefeated.

Not for the faint of heart nor those who look romantically at war and heroes, Simple Machines is a stark look into the reality of combat depicting an anti-hero damaged by the horror of war and questioning the price he and his men are asked to pay.

The life of a modern soldier, as told by a real life Army combat veteran. What could be more real? Each chapter is more chilling and heartwrenching than the last, and you just KNOW that there were many nights spent up late, wiping away tears as each of these stories was put to paper. The emotion comes through so well, especially in the narrator's delivery. It's an excellent story that all Americans should read. Freedom isn't free. It's paid for in the blood of our military.

A gripping, gut-punch of an expose

Wow! Get lost in the mind of a special ops operator as he faces his most challenging deployment yet. This book really helps you understand how messed up the war in Afghanistan was and how it really screwed up so many American GIs. Very compelling and intriguing.

What is really going on inside the head of a soldier?
