This series is perfection.

What a touching and beautiful picture these books paint of loving Christian friendship between women.
I'm doing a broad stroke review, because really, this particular book is part of a whole. The characters change from book to book, but the message is the same: God lovingly orders the footsteps of his followers and is intimately involved in the details of our lives, even if we can't see it. or feel it.
The characters are well thought out and believable. The stories are full of encouragement, humor and sensitivity.

Fun plot and fun characters

I was surprised that I enjoyed this book so much. The plot was out of the ordinary, the characters were much like my friends and me, I learned a lot about Finnish culture without even trying, and I was inspired to do something new and daring. There were so many funny lines in this book, and I don't know if I would've caught them had I read the book instead of listened to the audio version. I thought the reader did a great job in bringing out the humor. I listened to this book during my morning walks, and I actually looked forward to getting out of bed and exercising. Will definitely read more in this series.

A fun read

Any additional comments?

It is a fun touching story of friendship and adventure. It uses a good story line rather than sex, violence or shock factor to hold your attention. I would recommend this book to a friend. The reading is well done and makes you feel like you are a part of the story.

Reader needed a Finnish accent lesson

What did you like best about Sisterchicks on the Loose!? What did you like least?

In August 1982, when fictional Penny first proposed she and Sharon go to Finland, I was actually on my way there to spend a year as an exchange student. As such, I know the country and people well (I lived 30 minutes from Porvoo where Penny's aunt lives). What drove me crazy was the weird accent the narrator was doing. It wasn't remotely like a Finnish accent. The intonation and stresses were all completely wrong, as were the pronunciations of several key Finnish words (like sauna!). It was something like a bastardized Swedish-Norwegian- very aggravating.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Robin Jones Gunn?

Someone Finnish!

Any additional comments?

The story was charming and the characters were familiar to me: those poor, sweet women with their small worlds that spin around church and their children. The message to do something to grow yourself away from the kids is so important. Step out of your comfort zone. Learn a new language. Meet people with a different perspective on the world.

Pronunciation

Having been in Finland myself, I would have appreciated if the reader would have correctly pronounced the Finnish words and names she used.

Very frustrating book

What could Robin Jones Gunn have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This book is beyond words...I tried to return it but wasn't able. The Penny character was flighty and aggravating. I would have thrown her off a fjord and walked away had I been her friend. They go off to an arctic country in the dead of winter without reserving hotels or at least having some idea of what to do once in a new country. So many implausible things happen in this book. I managed to get to the end, but it was like trying to walk through a hoarder's house-too much stuff, not enough air.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sisterchicks on the Loose!?

The baby vomiting on the Sharon character in the airplane.

Any additional comments?

I know the story worked really hard at being funny but it just isn't.
