About this listen

In this irreverent Regency romp by New York Times best-selling author Sophie Jordan, newly minted 16-year-old Primrose Ainsworth finds herself on a wayward birthday adventure through London with a mysterious hero - perfect for fans of My Lady Jane.

The youngest of four daughters, Primrose Ainsworth is used to getting lost in the shuffle. But when her parents decide to delay her debut into English society, Prim hatches a plan to go rogue on the night of her 16th birthday.

Donning a mask, Prim escapes to the infamous Vauxhall Gardens for one wild night. When her cover is nearly blown, a mysterious stranger intercedes, and Prim finds an unexpected partner in mischief...and romance. But when it's revealed her new ally isn't who he says he is, her one night of fun may last past dawn.

In this frothy Regency romp perfect for fans of Austen-esque flirtation and Shakespearean hijinks, sometimes a little scandal can be a good thing.

I wasn't expecting much from this book, however it was a rather charming story. My 16 year old self would have adored it. It's a clean, funny, and enjoyable light read.

An adorable romance for young girls

Age and social levels were well written for characters and their behaviors. Super sweet & loving romance that did not focus on sex, but on real connection. Hero was someone truly noble, and Heroine was someone truly authentic. The mother was an unsympathetic foe, & yet both Hero & Heroine had this in common that they were virtually on their own - overlooked or ignored unless their parents or others wanted something from them. The sisterly affection was a bright spot. This was a tale youth who recognized the terrible-ness of the real world while they (together) captured some innocent magic.

This was a fun book. I generally don’t even glimpse twice at books whose tittles are plays on modern movies shows or sayings, they just irritate me. Nothing is worse in my mind. But I was on a Sophie Jordan kick and really adore listening to Moira Quirk so I made an impulse buy. I don’t regret it!
Yes, it was more or less predictable, but it was enjoyable!!! I wasn’t bored and I did a single sitting listen. That’s nice when it happens.

Creditworthy? Yep.
Heat factor? Non existent.
Narrator? Excellent

So cute! And that’s a compliment too.

At some point, girls go from tea parties to bodice rippers. This story skews closer to tea parties and is fit for teens, and maybe even tweens, of the Tay-Tay loving variety. Like the 80s movie, the heat in this never gets beyond sighs and kisses. As someone who has long since graduated to bodice ripper, this was too tame on all fronts. I longed for better plot, dialogue, and yes, bodice ripping.
