I saw that this author wrote the Shopaholic series, so I was hoping for something a little more light-hearted and funny.

Let's just say it was typical. The ending being a bit of a downer on the note of 'dinner' - I liked it up until the end so worth a listen. Everyone may not feel the same.

This book read more like a play than a novel. While there were a few times the prose was beautiful enough for me to rewind a sentence, it was very dialogue-heavy and the scenes took place in a small number of settings.. Also, much like a play, the character development seemed a bit deliberate, as if you simply must see the character change via dialogue in 2 hours.

It wasn't fun or funny like the Sophie Kinsella books I've read, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

The British novels I love are packed with dry humor, sharp observations of life, witty asides. This one is not. It's just a simple little romantic plot whose wryest lines appear in the first few pages, so you can actually listen to them for free and save yourself the download. Still, I give it 3 stars because it did pass some otherwise boring time fairly enjoyably while I did my chores.

I don't understand the low ratings for this novel. I thought the story and the narration were perfect. It is a character-driven story. I didn't want to stop listening because I came to care about the characters and I wanted to know what would happen to them next. There is a lot of humor and a lot of "adult situations" (in that people are adults and have to come to terms with job issues, family relationships, choices, the past, etc). If you're looking for a romance novel with lots of torrid love scenes, then this isn't it! There is a bit of romance, but mostly it's about a group of well-written characters who have to deal with situations and each other. I loved the story and was sad to say goodbye to the two families when I finished.

I love Sophie Kinsella/Madeleine Wickhams books, however this was not her best. It was a nice story and the characters were good however the story line didn't really build up. The narrators accents were distracting too. Overall an ok read but not the best of her collection.
