About this listen

Living a successful life in Charleston, South Carolina, Kate MacKenna has always been able to turn her challenges into triumphs. But now the fates seem to be lining up against her in a lethal fashion.

While attending a reception at a friend's estate for a controversial artist, Kate is nearly killed by an explosion. Once home, Kate is hit with the news that the prosperous fragrance company she has nurtured from the ground up is in jeopardy: It turns out that her late mother used the business as collateral for a huge loan, and full payment is due in three weeks. Kate's still reeling from this devastating news when her younger sister's volatile ex-boyfriend shows up and threatens her.

Then Kate receives a call from her best friend, Jordan Buchanan, who is hospitalized and scheduled for surgery in Boston. Though stretched to the limit, Kate immediately rushes to her side. Once she knows that Jordan is going to be fine, Kate abandons her calm façade and allows herself a major meltdown, doing something that is totally uncharacteristic: She has a one-night stand with Jordan's brother Dylan.

Coming to her senses, Kate returns home determined to get back on track and save her business. But the mishaps keep coming.

At Jordan's insistence, Dylan checks up on Kate. He's convinced that she's merely having a spell of bad luck - until he discovers how many people want Kate MacKenna dead.

I really enjoy this narrator. Great story and everything is tied together well. This style of read is right up my alley.

Enjoyable listen

Meet Kate, a sweet southern girl who loves her family and works hard with her small business. Things are strange when a bomb goes off at an art gallery, but things get more strange when another goes off at a warehouse. Why are bombs going off when Kate is around?
In steps in another Buchanan brother, Dillion. Kate is best friends with his sister. Jordan, the sister sends her law enforcement brother to protect Kate and figure out what is going on. Read or listen to find out why Kate is a target.

Loved this 5th book in the series. Like the others, it was fun and kept you on your toes at times.

Sweet southern girl avoids death again...

I enjoy Romantic Suspense books with bite to them--this one was good--could have been more bite though. Narrators can make or break book. I enjoyed the narrator also, however she doesn't do "southern" very well (the reason she got a 3). I know I have listened to her before and I know she has done a better job.

I started listening to the sample story about Jordan--she seems to be more herself in this one--she will probably rate much better, at least in my opinion.

Enjoyed It, but why "Slow Burn" as a Title

A little goes a long way. I found it hard to stay focused on the story line because the narrator's thick, southern accent interfered. Usually, I love Julie Garwood stories, so I was disappointed in not hearing this one.

I'm bedridden, so I can't hold a hard-copy book. Also, I live in Kentucky and am used to hearing gentle, southern accents, . . but this one grated on my nerves.

Nauseating accent spoils the story.

This is a favorite. Read this a long time ago. When I saw the audible version, I had to try it. It compliments the book perfectly. Narration excellent. It’s a favorite story of mine and now it’s going to be a favorite to listen and enjoy over and over. HEA. No cheating. No cliffhanger.

Sweet read

I love the books but the narrator (in my opinion) makes the characters sound old. not a fan of this narrator.

Love the books but...

Julie Garwood is one of my favorite writers and although this is an older novel the story could be timeless. From the sisters and close friend to the macho men. The story kept me entertained with laughter and suspense.
I think Joyce Bean did a great job.

Enjoyable Suspense/Romance!
