Publisher's summary

Two people with little in common but business give pleasure a shot in a charming romance about fate and taking chances by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst.

The truth? Lonely advertising rep Malia Evergreen is still waiting for a soul mate, marriage, and a family. The lie? Telling every busybody she knows that she’s met someone. Now it’s a matter of finding him. Malia needs a date for a wedding. In a pinch she strikes a bargain with her former client, CEO Palmer Matterson—an arrogant, defiantly single, alpha billionaire whose best quality is insincerity. The perfect fake date.

Palmer has wanted Malia from the first moment he saw her. A challenging, sexy career woman who knows what she wants. It’s just not him. Not yet, anyway. This is Palmer’s chance to win her heart.

As fate throws them together, Malia unravels the layers of the man she thought she knew and, against the odds, finds herself falling in love. Palmer’s falling too. If only they can convince each other what they share…a belief in a happy ever after.

Critic reviews

“[Joy] Beharie skillfully voices Malia's uncertainty about her feelings for Palmer, while [Nelson] Hobbs brings decisiveness to his performance of Palmer's passion for Malia. Malia has two business partners, and Beharie distinguishes them by giving one a breathy quality and the other a strident tone, both matching their personalities. Hobbs and Beharie work well together as Malia and Palmer navigate their developing relationship and work through their differing expectations of life." (AudioFile Magazine)

Cute story!

Wish there was an option to rate the narrators individually. Nelson Hobbs is fantastic, but Joy Beharie is just okay. Her inflection sometimes makes it difficult to understand the meaning of a sentence.

Great Second Book Of Series

I found Jennifer Probst in 2018 and have followed her since then. I enjoy her books so much. She writes well with great storylines and wonderful characters. This series has such a different feel to it. It amazes me. These two characters, Palmer and Malia, are both stubborn in their own ways. Palmer stole my heart early on, but Malia took awhile for me to love. I certainly got there! I love the friendship between the characters so much. It warms my heart. I look forward to the next book. I'm hoping Mike and Emma get their own book. For me, they stole the show!

I first received an ARC of this book, then I read/listened to it through Kindle Unlimited because I love audiobooks. The narrators did a great job. They have easy to listen to voices. Especially the male narrator.

Thank you NetGalley and Valentine PR for the ARC of this book. This is my voluntary and honest review.

Horrible female narrator

Female narrator was horrible. Read too slow. Inflections were not in sync with the story. Good thing it was whispersync so I could switch back to kindle to finish.

Another cute and fun story!

This series is fun to listen to, I especially love the banter and the girl’s friendship. I’d give it 3.5 stars. If you’re looking for smthg fun and with some spice, found family and women empowerment, this story is for you. I’m excited for the next book!

Cute story

Cute story. Palmer bucks the stereotype and is CEO of a wedding planning business. He enjoys his verbal sparing with ad exec, Malia…then she tells him that she’s moving to another position. The pair see each other in a different light when they end up volunteering at the same charity. When Malia needs a date for a wedding, it’s only natural that Palmer will agree. A bit predictable but cute story.

Just Blah

This story is lackluster and just blah. The back and forth is eye rollingly(I know) annoying. I love a string heroine but, this gal not so much. I was also annoyed that she claimed that people see her as white women although she’s obviously biracial 🙄.

So boring

My mind wandered so many times while listening to this book and I even feel asleep once. But I didn’t need to rewind, I didn’t seem to have missed anything. Definitely not up to Ms Propst’s usual standards.
