About this listen

In the year 2055, scientists discover something far worse than rising temperatures and rising seas - they discover massive sunspots that are producing unprecedented solar flares.

With little time to prepare for the storms, NASA recruits doctors Sophie Winston and Emanuel Rodriguez to help monitor the solar weather. At first, the duo believes they have been hired for a routine project. But when arriving at the Johnson Space Center they quickly realize they haven't been told everything about their mission. And as a massive storm races toward Earth, they begin to suspect that it isn't a natural event. Millions of miles away something is feeding the storms....

This seems like a possible series for me to listen to. There was an F word and an intimate scene however.

I enjoy short stories

I liked how it filled in the blank at the beginning. Started the character development out and made for a much better series.

Great Prelude to the Orb Series

By the time I listedned tothis I had already listened to the entire ORB series. Therefore it didn't do much for me. It would have been interesting if I had listened to it first but it is not necessary to before you do the series.
I got it free on a special and for that price it was very good but I would never have paid it only being only 53 minuses long.
Bronson Pinchot is a better narrator than actor. I always like his narrations. He's very good doiing voices.

OK as a beginning

Exceptional story, refreshingly original. Good characters , performance was just right. Going to read the whole series now.

Great Storyline

Good listen but no background on the characters... like jumping into the middle of a book you've never read before.

Good intro.

4.5 of 5 stars.

I haven't read any of Nicholas Sansbury Smith's stories so I'm not familiar with the Orbs series. Well-written and engaging, I didn't know what to expect and thought the story's reveal (anomaly) was introduced nicely into the plot. I'll have to delve further into the Orbs series.

Bronson Pinchot gave an excellent performance.

A tasty short prequel

I probably shouldn't have listen to this before the main books. It barely held my interest.

Maybe read the main books first.

I’m enjoying the Orb books and the only reason I gave this particular “book” such low ratings as I did is because 99% of EVERYTHING in this book is stated word for word in The Orbs Book 1! Just buy the Orbs collection and you won’t miss a single thing. Literally the only thing missing from the Orbs Book 1 that is in this “book” is Sophie’s arrival at the facility... which has no bearing on the story and is really only a small amount, maybe a few minutes of fluff... I regret that I wasted a credit on this short-story when everything is said in book 1. I am upset at this author or whoever decided to try to make an extra buck on a story that’s duplicated in the original series. There is nothing new in this “book” at all. This is not a “background prequel.”

Narrator Note: This narrator isn’t terrible. I prefer other narrators but this one isn’t bad. His tone and cadence mostly remains the same through the entire story though. It’s more like he is reading me a bedtime story and sort of makes me sleepy. Ha. Funny, but true. He is a decent narrator though.

Don’t waste a credit or money on this SHORT STORY!
