Publisher's summary

He is a predator, and I am his prey....

Prey: The Rabbit

Mark Fenton, assistant to the mayor, never regretted opening his mouth more than he did when he insulted Madam Winters’ establishment, the Courtesan Hotel. Now he’s being sold off for a night in the summer auction. It’s small comfort that part of the proceeds benefit charity. The man who buys Mark’s time, Camden, is wild and unruly. He’s not Mark’s type, from his giant body to his rough nature, but the more time Mark spends with Camden, the more he finds himself having fun.

Predator: The Wolf

Camden Wolf knows what he likes - redheads who want to be pursued - and Mark appears to be exactly that. When Madam Winters tells Camden about the feisty man she has ready for the auction block, he can’t resist putting a claim on Mark. Chasing him has Camden’s inner primal nature excited, and he can’t get enough of Mark. But as much as they are having fun, Mark is skittish.

Attack and Capture

Mark fits into Camden’s life like a missing puzzle piece, and Camden’s daughters and his best friend/ex-wife love Mark. But convincing him they can have a future is difficult, especially when all Mark wants to do is run away in fear. Luckily Camden is the kind of man who loves a challenge, and he has plans to make Mark his in every single way.

Sold For the night

When one bad remark lands him in dangerous waters Mark does what he knows best, he runs. Yet that is just what Camden is looking for. The two are in for some big surprises and they must determine if they want to fight for what they start or let it slip away.

This is an intense story. Camden enjoys primal play and Mark is so very new to this world. The two men are not only hot together, but they are very compatible throughout their lives. I enjoyed seeing the two begin a tentative relationship and begin to work through their problems. Camden is a good man and Mark must make the choice to trust him or not. It was nice to see Mark begin to find himself and what he enjoys with Camden by his side. We get to see that there are many sides to the people of New Gothenburg with this story. Narrator Chris Boykin moves the story along but there was not a lot of emotion to the characters and some long pauses at times.

Favorite of the series... so far

The narrator is so fun. He can do the daughters, the courtesan owner Madame Winters along with both Cam and Mark. SO good.

Mark made a mistake saying the wrong thing at the wrong time in front of the wrong person.... or did he? He is now going up for auction for a night of whatever his purchaser wants.

Camden is excited to go to the auction. His mom is friends with Madame Winters, the owner of the courtesan. When he sees her he asks about one man up for auction. She informs him he would be perfect for him. She tells him to pay what wants to get him and she will cover it. So he gets his man.

However things are not quite like he thought they would be. He thought Mark was there of his own desire, not as a punishment. Since Camden plays very rough he feels guilty of how he treated him. After their first night together Mark meets Camden's daughters and ex-wife who is still Camden's best friend.

Camden knows Mark is perfect for him, but is Camden perfect for Mark? How far can their relationship go? Will Camden's daughters accept Mark? What about when Mark sees someone from his past and bolts once again?

I think this is one of the best books in the entire sets of series.

Gripping, steamy romance!

Fast-paced, steamy read with amazing, well-rounded MC’s. Loved it!! The dubcon scene is hot if a little troubling, and my heart ached for Mark and Camden both at the fallout afterward. I’ve not read many books yet with primal play, so that definitely intrigued me, and I liked how that aspect of their relationship was written. I really enjoyed the finding family aspect of the story, the warmth and comfort of family life a nice contrast to the rougher, thrilling dynamic of the chase and dominance play between Mark and Camden. The story gets quite emotional too at times. My heart ached for Mark when he is so unexpectedly confronted with Madam Winters. I really like Madam Winters as a character, though, even if she does frighten me. She’s very enigmatic, capable of deep emotion and loyalty, but dangerous and machiavellian. Mark is very protective of Camden’s children, confronting his own fears in order to keep them safe. He’s an awesome character. I loved how he grew throughout the story, learning from the mistakes that landed him in his predicament in the beginning of the story and trying to do better. I also really loved Camden for Mark. He’s incredibly loving towards Mark and stands up for him. A great couple!

Narration: The narrator has a pleasant voice, but the narration was a bit stilted at times. Room to grow.

Primal play perfection

I absolutely love this story! Mark and Camden are scorching hot. I was introduced to a new kink in this story: primal play. I loved the hunt, chase, and eventual submission we see from Camden and his little “rabbit”. The narration was a little rough for me. There was on chapter that was very screechy, but I still really enjoyed the story snd listening to this unique romance unfold.

Great book, but not a great narrator.

Really enjoyed this book! But the narrator pronounced words very strangely and threw me off. Reading the book gave a better experience.

City Hall is a fun series

I've enjoyed all the City Hall books for the fun and fantasy world created by Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory. Lots of naughty behavior occurs in New Gothenburg, and the City Hall series is tangential to several other books situated in New Gothenburg by these two authors: Bent But Not Broken, and The Madam's Baby Boy are two examples. This installment of the City Hall series features one of the mayor's assistants, intense and career focused Mark Fenton, In a particularly impossible event, but fun anyway, Mark is kidnapped by Madam Winters of the Courtesan Hotel and auctioned off at a charity event in which the people being auctioned off are the property of the highest bidder. Mark gets purchased by Camden Wolf, who doesn't know that Mark was on the auction block against his will. As you might expect, these two manage to find their way through the misunderstandings to find their HEA. I rather enjoyed the alpha characterization employed for Camden. He's like a wolf shifter in bed, and it takes Mark by surprise to find that he's the little rabbit in the big bad wolf's sights.
My only complaint is with the narrator. Chris Boykin is not a voice actor and his narration lacks any differentiation between the very different characters. Chris tries at times to differentiate, but the effect is pretty dismal. This narration was like having a book read to you by a librarian or teacher with good inflection and story sense, but without the ability to create different voices for each charachter. Chris will likely improve his voice acting through experience and training. This narratation downside barely diminished my enjoyment of the fun story.

Liked it but kinda tough

I got a copy of this book from the narrator. I like the story, but I think I’m going to have to actually read the story because I have no doubt I missed a bunch of it. The narrator is new, so I’m sure he’s still learning his reading style. It felt stiff and kinda choppy, so I ended up speeding it up so it wasn’t as slow.

Ok, so I really liked the story....but it is IMO the worst narration ever. Seriously the worst!
