About this listen

She sings to brighten the dying world. He lurks in the shadows, hunting her kind. When their paths collide, the past—and future—will unravel.

Tarset is accustomed to being the most famous woman on the planet. But the world is locked in a devastating war between humans and immortals, and her spotlight is fading. When she is inexplicably “killed” only to rematerialize in ancient Egypt, she is desperate to cross the vast chasm of time stretching out before her.

Striving to keep a low profile to avoid causing a devastating butterfly effect, Tarset journeys across the harsh desert and befriends a handsome stranger who claims he can repair the damaged timeline. But the man she suspects is her fated mate has an air of dangerous secrecy, and she fears one misstep could cost her life...and that of her entire bloodline.

Can this starlet in a strange land course correct the past before it scatters her future to the winds?

Song of Scarabs and Fallen Stars is the dark and seductive first book in the thrilling new time-travel romance series the Fateless Trilogy. If you like Egyptian mythology, emotional roller coasters, ancient settings, and forbidden attractions, then you’ll love Lindsey Sparks’ atmospheric tale.

Favorite book this month

I really liked how this book was written! I felt like the character didn't loose the fact she came from a modern day setting despite the majority of the book being set elsewhere. The characters were all unique, some cause some strong opinions on my end but that to me just shows how well written it was. Very fun!

Tarset's Story

I was so sad when I got through Lex's story and Alexandra's thinking the series' were over. I'm so glad this trilogy was created. Lindsey Sparks/Farleigh really knows how to pull you into this magical, fantasy historical world. Her ability to pull you on and give you a vested interest in the characters is uncanny. This a great 1st book!

Worth it

I bought this book based solely on the narrators. The magic system was unique and took a little bit to get in to… but so glad I finished.

Adrenaline spikes: beware! :)

Lindsey has again managed to entangle and enthrall you right in the first chapter - what a start!

Just the fact that Tarsi has to figure out where or when she is already draws you in. From the first day she finds herself alone in that desert, the suffering begins: physical and mental. As she struggles to stay on her tip toes and tread lightly so as not to leave any lasting footprints, we follow her journey through the glistening desert and ancient cities of Egypt.

The story is intrinsically thought out considering the two different time periods in which it takes place, as cleverly and lovingly put together as the Echo Trilogy. Various of the characters from the other Echo world series show up in this new spin off, and it is heart warming to catch up with each of them.

Definitely a more adult book in terms of the violence and sexual themes versus the other two series - so take note if you have any triggers.

It definitely makes your heart rate pick up!

LOVED

Can't wait to dive into the next in the series! I see Julia Whelan narrated another series about Kat and that will be going on my list too. Each narrator did a fantastic job but the pace needed adjusted when they changed; Tarset's needed 1.20 pace, Kat's needed 1.05.

The book is way better than the audiobook.

I read the book in about five hours. I gobbled it up. It is such an amazing book. The audiobook on the other hand? I just can’t.
The narrator for tarset is so blah. I don’t feel like she has any animation to her narration.
If I had listened to the audiobook before I read the book, I would be put off of it.
I’ve had to bump this up to 1.35 speed just to get it fast enough to actually along.
Hands down, some of the worst narration I’ve ever heard.
But the physical book? Elite. 10 stars. Lindsey is just fabulous.

Stina Nielsens narration ruins the others

Stina Nielsens narration ruins the others. The story is great, but I just cringed every time Stina Nielsen narrated.

Too much whining

I almost quit listening to this book. Tarset’s whining was overwhelming. I could only listen in small doses. Otherwise I liked the story.
