About this listen

Time seemed to collapse…There was a sharp stabbing sensation in my stomach…Steve crowed, "Now I have you! Now you're gonna die!"

Dead if he loses - damned if he wins. The time has finally come for Darren to face his arch enemy, Steve Leopard, and fight for control of the night. One of them will die. The other will become the Lord of the Shadows …and destroy the world.

Is the future written, or can Darren trick destiny?

The second book was hard to get through, but after getting past the grief and pain it gets better and better. many things I guessed would happen, and several thing wound up happening that I never would have seen coming. What a good series.

Loved it, loved it more than I ever expected.

I was so happy this was included in our audible membership. I completely enjoyed the series. It was a fun twist on the vampire genre. I know it was written for young adults but I have to say I really enjoyed there was not constant cussing, it allowed me to play it in the background with my kids in the room. There in the reader was outstanding and I would listen to more books by him.

Excellent series!

The overall plot was great! To top it all off, Ralph Lister did a marvelous job in narrating it.

It pains me to see that some people despised the ending though. What I think the author did was subtly brilliant. He tickled the imagination of those young or young-at-heart. Letting us think that he forfeited his destiny to become a vampire prince and it is up for grabs. Giving excitement to those who are interested in taking his place (referring to Evanna's explanation on how destiny works.)

Another point I liked is he opened the ending for interpretation. Leaving if for the readers to decide how the story will end.

Great plot!

This book felt rushed like Darren was just ready to leave this series in the dust and move on to something else. I feel a little cheated I sat through 11 books for this to be the ending...it feels a bit like a cop out...though I get it. It's the last book might as well finish it but it was kinda rough...

a little disappointed

Honestly I've been in love with this series since it was released and for that I'm forever grateful. I'm not sure if you see these comments but I really feel if you turned this into a video game it would be such an amazing hit across the world.

wishful thinking

Fantastisk ending to an amazing series that held me captive from the first page. it's been a long time since I've plouved through a book series this fast.

I see complaining about the series not having a "happy ending" for Darren but that was the point he made from the beginning, in real life, stories dont always have happy endings. The good guys dont always win. That being said, I'd say getting to go back n be human again, have his family n friends back, and live a normal life is a great ending for him. Ive read/listened to this series about 10 times now, and I will keep rereading them again & again. Darren Shan is an amazing author and his books are full of twists and surprises that no other authors could make work.

Best book series ever!

I originally only found out about the Cirque Du Freak from the movie. Like most movie adaptations it was just alright. But once I started reading the books I was hooked! It’s been a long time since I finished reading them and when I realized all 12 books were included in an audible subscription, I knew I was in for a binge. It was just as much fun as the first time I read them, if not better with having the narration. I liked Ralph Listers voices but I did think that perhaps Harkat and Mr. Crepsley sounded a little too close to each other. But other than that it’s perfect. DEFINITELY give this books a listen. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Revisiting my favorite childhood books.
