About this listen

Mass is humanoid, but genetically evolved to cope with greater pressures, stronger gravity, and heavier densities than those of an ancient planet he never knew, nor probably ever would. For Mass, Earth is millennia in the past.

His companions are equally diverse, differently evolved, and most unsuitable to him and to one another. Each live on a separate plane they had grown on separate worlds.

Yet survival might depend on communication. To live, they must find a way to come together as they’re faced with intense pressure, clashing perspectives, and unfamiliar circumstances.

What a fantastic story?! IF you're a big Tolkien fan. And holy cats the narrator deserves a medal. The way the book is written with so many intermingling characters means narrator (and probably editor) was on their A-game. We got a smooth ride through a stormy but rich scifi. I can't wait to see what deeper plots develop now that the protagonist team has been marvelously established.

A great scifi. I'm rootin' around for book 2 as so

I found this to be an entertaining listen though it was nothing mind blowing. Feels much like a sub story set in Asimov’s “Foundation” universe after the fall of the empire. Big powerful empire mysteriously disappears leaving thousands of planets behind to get by on their own. The story kind of shifts gears a few times from sci-fi space explorer to personal drama to love triangle to philosophy debate. The overall effect is like one of those tv shows that you keep watching as mindless entertainment. It’s quite enjoyable as long as your expectations are set appropriately.

Entertaining

Classic magic as science premise.
Explorations of consciousness in late seventies psychology-philosophy. And exploration of political and industrial concepts of empire .

Excellent science fiction

While this release of "Space Skimmer" is titled "Book One," there is no actual book two, & never has been.

If you're looking for pulse pounding action, look elsewhere. If you're interested in a steady, forward moving, cerebral story, in a universe long past it's 'sell by' date, with characters that will draw you in & hold your attention, this, you have found.

Simply, fantastic!

story could have been good but the reader was just bad. good narrators are few and far between. Felt like he was reading a script,no intonation,no emotion ,nothing. even for free was not worth it.

the narrator was just bad period

this book was definately not for me. I'd have to say that it may be a good listen for some but the story and style are not to my taste. too much "artistic poetry" style content.

acquired taste required

horrible! what's with the stupid songs? the focus on feelings and love are sappy as hell and add nothing to a story that actually had potential. that could be the thing that pissed me off the most the story had potential and good bones but then all this sad sack emotional bull drove it straight into the ground and set itself on fire right about where the fluff puppy came in.

Bad! Author please read review and rethink career

the last hour was UGH!!! to say the least story was a good idea but the ending seemed very "undeserving" the "wet pink love kiss kiss" 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮nonsense got old very fast and it just kept going and going. I do not recommend this... I could've spent this 7 hours doing something better

I’m afraid I couldn’t finish this. I like David Gerrold, and really liked Martian Boy, but Hoye seemed to use the same intonation pattern interminably. It seemed extremely robotic, and not in a positive way! I couldn’t even get far enough into it to be able to judge the story itself, though the system requires it. So land no credence to the “3” I assigned! It could justify a ”5” or a”1”.

Monotonous narrator
