About this listen

Experience a thrilling, magical twist on Jane Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice in Spellbound at Pemberley, the first book of the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Mage trilogy!

Fitzwilliam Darcy is a powerful mage and master of illusions. His abilities make him the perfect man for a dangerous mission to end the devastating war with Napoleon—a mission that would leave him little chance of returning alive. When he meets the enchanting Elizabeth Bennet, whose magical talents are as deep as they are inexplicable, he knows he needs her help. There's only one way to get that—marriage. Immediately.

Elizabeth wants nothing to do with his plan. Marrying Darcy would mean breaking her strong and beloved magical bond to Longbourn and giving up the use of her talent forever. Then, dragons enter the war in Europe, and England's survival hangs in the balance. Elizabeth must make the ultimate sacrifice.

In this first book of the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Mage trilogy, dragons are already watching their newlywed journey to Pemberley, and a shocking discovery will force them to question everything they believe. Can they learn to trust each other and work together to save their country—and their lives?

Terrific performances and an exciting story. I’m ready for Book 2! Bring on the dragon negotiations! I loved Lady Frederica and Mrs. Morgan.

A wonderful book!

I haven’t quite finished the book and the story is so engaging that I will buy the next two audiobooks. I generally enjoy Ms Klett, my only complaint being her voice is too high for comfortable listening. Mr Frost is my favorite narrator and he is excellent here.
I do not like the passing back and forth between the narrators. To my ear, they have differing interpretations of the characters and this is most annoying. Ms Klett’s Elizabeth is petulant and her Darcy is wish-washy while Mr Frost’s Elizabeth comes across as angry but rational and his Darcy is strong.
This, of course, is my opinion and how I experience the book. I would much rather one or the other narrator read the entire book.

Love the story

With only 1 hour left, my overwhelming feeling is one of considerable Annoyance with the Stupidity of Darcy. The other characters are interesting as well as the Dragons. And the narrators are very good, but I’m not sure if I will even bother with Book 2.

Interesting - Yes, but Darcy is Annoying

It’s such a joy to hear Elizabeth Klett narrating another Abigail Reynolds book, and pairing her with Harry Frost in a dual narration makes it absolutely outstanding. I’m not an expert on fantasy stories, but this one certainly kept me ‘spellbound’. Now to wait patiently for the next audiobook in the series.

Outstanding Narration - Great fantasy

I found this while searching for another book like ÷Enchanting Mr Darcy, and it did not disappoint! Excellent world building, with a seemingly insurmountable guiding conflict for which the characters need to learn, explore, and open themselves to new possibilities in order to find a resolution.

I will warn that the primary conflict is not resolved in this book, but they have overcome all the obstacles in the way for their main preparations - except, of course, for time. Lizzy, Darcy, and a set of determined allies are trying to find a way to address the heart of the issue - because it isn't what the government thinks.

We also explore the realism of how people actually feel and respond to shocking details. Not everyone will take your side when shocked, and those who do may not be as much on your side - or against you - as you'd think.

But don't think it will all be good at the end - they still have a whole host of problems to handle, and a few wildcard characters who have yet to show their hands.

Second book comes out soon in text format, but I'm eager for the audio as well.

Amazing magic system and plot!

Two excellent performers reading an interesting and well written story. Recommend listening to the Pride & Prejudice variation.

Great story, great performance. Can’t wait for the next instalment

My main complaint is that I didn’t realize the other books in this series are not available on audible!!! Boo! This book ends right where the real excitement begins!

Interesting, not too much angst and novel!

This is a wonderful variation and it was fantastic to get lost in a new world for this story. The narration was great. I would highly recommend this book and look forward to the next to come!

Wonderful story!

A great fantasy P&P variation. Lots of world and character building in this first book. It does end on a cliffhanger. I’ve already preordered book 2.

Magical

When Abigail Reynolds released this story I quickly bought it. The story alone is wonderful and then to add two extremely talented narrators made the audiobook one that had to be bought as soon as it was released. The only thing that might make it even better if instead of altering the narrator based on the perspective of the character (chapters were from different perspectives) but if all the male and female voices were done by their respective narrators. I just listened to another of my favorite stories that this was done and it took the audiobook up another notch. This is not to say that there’s anything wrong with this audiobook as I absolutely loved it and this will be one that I will listen to again. I can’t wait until the next installment of this series and see what Darcy and Elizabeth along with their friends will deal with.

Abigail Reynolds brings us another fantastic fantasy story
