About this listen

The galaxy’s greatest alien relic hunters face a malevolent AI bent on destroying all sentient life

Hudson Powell and Tory Bellona scour the galaxy for priceless alien artefacts found inside wrecked starships called Revocaters. Once the guardians of life in the universe, the Revocaters were destroyed by a super-powered AI, known as Goliath. Thwarted before it could finish its task, Goliath has now returned to fulfil its purpose, and wipe out all sentient life in the universe.

Earth is its target and Hudson and Tory are all that stand in its way. Employing their unique skills and abilities, they must search the portal worlds for rare alien crystals—the key to the AI's power—and create a weapon to destroy it.

But with danger at every turn from rival scavengers, corrupt authorities, and a fanatical AI-worshipping death cult, the two heroes must outwit their enemies and navigate treacherous worlds in a pulse-pounding race against time.

With the fate of humanity in the balance, the stakes have never been higher. Can they retrieve the crystals and defeat Goliath before it's too late?

Star Guardians is an epic five-book space opera series, blending the edge-of-your-seat action of Firefly with the relic-hunting adventure and mystery of Indiana Jones. Start listening today!

Entertaining Story.

Captured and held my interest. Great series. I wish there was more, I didn't want the story to end.

Great Story

I had a lot of trouble getting through this series. They kept getting themselves in the same situation over and over again I love the author. He writes a lot of good books, but this one was rough.

Loved the series overall, Great narrator.

Sure the characters became a bit monotinous and predictable, However it was what it was intended to be. An old fashioned Western series set in a space adventure. I would love for the adventure to continue.

Yes, a Space Opera.

Likes: interesting concept, action, likable characters.

Dislikes: seriously poor decision making by main characters to the point of being ridiculous

Also disliked: elements of the performance. Consistent volume by the speaker matters. Speaking so low you have to crank the volume, followed by almost shouting into the microphone made me question myself for listening.

It’s not a *bad story, and it’s entertaining.

For one credit, worth it.

Lots and lots of twists and turns.

Just be prepared to back up because the actor thinks barely speaking adds something, and also is apparently unable to make his voice sound like he’s shouting without actually shouting. If you buy, you’ve been warned.

The adventure.

An enjoyable roller-coaster story where good beats evil. Humor and danger travel hand in hand throughout the galaxy!

boring, slow, a feminist trope.

this is a story about a man that had chased off the scourge of the galaxy but can not fight himself. he is protected by a woman who is so awesome that in 18 chapters she has zero difficulty beating up anyone who makes her feel bad or makes fun of her. have read many books by Ogden, this one is the last.

Too much of the same, DNF: Spoilers Warning...

BLUF: I got about halfway through the first book in this follow-on series and just couldn't maintain interest due to the resurgence of way too many of the things that I thought plagued the Star Scavenger Series.

*SPOILERS below*

*

*

Despite reading and understanding a lot of the common criticisms of the Scavenger Series, I enjoyed the story and overall the character interactions enough to push me through. I kind of appreciated that Hudson stayed more or less true to his principles through the end, that Tori stayed a badass with a soft spot for Hudson, and the bad guys stayed bad until the end...

*SPOILERS: Star Guardians Series picks up 5 years later and unfortunately the author's approach was to hit the reset button on most of the story. Okay, I can somewhat deal with parts of this. Hudson and Tori are together, seemingly struggling as relic hunters still and having no advantages. The RGF is once again corrupt. Apparently everyone is discovering new worlds at a rapid pace again even though the means to do so (the "crystal") was destroyed in the fight with Goliath. This new story kicks off with a 5-year reunion of our main protagonists from the previous books, which rapidly ends in tragedy. Tori and Hudson's awesome alien-enhanced spaceship gets trivially destroyed and our famous heroes are left nearly starting from square one fighting a new enemy...only...maybe not a new enemy.

It was clear from book synopsis that Goliath was going to reappear...okay, fine. But once again, Hudson (and Tori) is forced to start afresh by managing to obtain a broken but diamond in the rough spaceship that is way beyond his means and of course manages to run into the one person in the galaxy who can and will help him basically refab it for almost no cost. Okay, cringe...I kept going.

The last straw for me was the sudden (but at this point not surprising) reappearance of Logan Griff who still wants nothing more than to kill Hudson. That was the end for me. Hundson and Tori are in another no-escape situation surrounded by people who just want them dead, and I fully assume they will escape somehow. I just can't stomach more of Griff magically popping up everywhere Hudson goes.

Because this was an Audible purchase, I will add that I still do not enjoy the narration very much even if I was used to it by this point.
