Publisher's summary

A novel based upon the explosive Star Trek TV series!

The USS Discovery’s specialty is using its spore-based hub drive to jump great distances faster than any warp-faring vessel in Starfleet. To do this, Lieutenant Paul Stamets navigates the ship through the recently revealed mycelial network, a subspace domain Discovery can briefly transit but in which it cannot remain.

After responding to a startling distress call originating from within the network, the Discovery crew find themselves trapped in an inescapable realm where they will surely perish unless their missing mycelial fuel is found or restored. Is the seemingly human man found alone and alive inside the network the Starfleet officer he claims to be, or an impostor created by alien intruders who hope to extract themselves from the mycelial plane at the expense of all lives aboard Discovery?

A detailed insight into the Mycellial network!

A very good and different kind of novel, I won't say much because it will be spoiling the plot point, but this novel explores the part in the series where Hugh Culber "dies", and this explains how he got revived and got in contact again with Paul Stammets.

The novel revolves about them and a new being, a tardigrade called "Ephraim", who acts as the go-between in the physical and the mycellial network. The Discovery crew has been stranded on the mycellial network and they must find a solution to go back to the real space before the ship slowly disintegrates by the outside forces, but they are also threatened by an invasion of aliens.

I can't say much due to the heavy spoiler-filled plot, but this is a very good exploration of some of the unusual characters in the series.

Cosmic Horror Trek

Not what I was expecting but the assertion of the universe's apathy to our state of both understanding as well as quality of life mixed in with a Star trek storyline that I love like Discovery... just perfect.

Great Story Awesome Narrator!

My daughter & I love the Discovery stories. We are all up to date on the first 2 seasons of the show & have been listening to the audiobooks to fill in backstory and keep occupied until season 3. We connect with the main characters & have been especially moved by the story of Stamets and Culber. This book really kept us enthralled and added a fantastic new depth to what we thought we already knew. Also - the narrator is absolutely amazing at capturing the speaking patterns of the individual characters. We could easily discern which character was speaking by both the writer's choice of wording (also excellent!) and the narrator's pacing. Perfect all the way through!

Not Star Trek Material

The story was less about the Discovery's Quantum theory and multi-universe travel than a personal relationship.

Love story

I understand the need of the love story for this book...I don’t listen or watch Star Trek for relationships but the adventure it provides. I found it tediously annoying.

A great story with all the Star Trek elements

Loved the story and I feel that it combined the mystery and science of Star Trek with an interesting thread of two people trying to find each other again. It's just a touch romantic, sad and hopeful.

fairly decent Trek

Mild spoilers...so far only the Enterprise War has been the only Discovery novel I would call great but this one is pretty solid. it is frustrating that when you read the novels you are doing so to learn more about characters established in the show and this book follows a discovery crew from a different universe that is nearly the exact same as the one from the show only they couldn't do this story with the shows crew so we'll use this convenient loophole. I found that mildly annoying... still it was pretty good.

Confusing at first but then it became so clear!

I had no idea of what this story was going on about at first as the characters were all so Familiar and yet not. And the suddenly clarity in the multiverse and mycelial network!

This was a great story that drew me in slowly with many “what-if’s” but ultimately concluding with a
Great merge into the storyline followers of Discovery are familiar with.
