Publisher's summary

Join the Resistance, Book 1

If being a hero were easy, everybody would be one.

Mattis Banz knows that he's meant to be a hero of the galaxy like the legendary Luke Skywalker, and when General Leia Organa's Resistance recruits him to join its efforts against the evil First Order, he finally has a chance to fulfill his destiny. But the rest of his squadron doesn't seem very promising. Sure, there's the Zeltron girl Lorica, famous for her exploits foiling evil smugglers, but there's also the swamp boy named Dec, who seems to enjoy causing trouble; Dec's "brother", a droid who thinks he's a pilot; Sari, whose imposing size contradicts her sweet nature; and Jo, the stuffy group leader with secrets. How is Mattis supposed to be the next Poe Dameron when he and his squad mates spend more time in trouble than flying X-wings? The team will have to learn how to work together when the going gets tough, or they won't be going anywhere....

Join the Resistance: Escape from Vodran, Book 2

Sometimes the hero you want to be isn't the hero you need to be.

From the moment they landed on the swampy planet Vodran, J-Squadron's mission for Admiral Ackbar has been a disaster-and now Mattis, Lorica, AG-90, and Jo have been captured by the First Order! Can things get any worse? Of course they can: Jo immediately turns traitor and abandons his Resistance squad mates, and AG is taken away to be reprogrammed as a villainous First Order droid. Forced to rely on each other, can the squabbling Mattis and Lorica work together to escape before they are forced to give up Resistance secrets? Meanwhile, Dec and Sari land on a mysterious moon and encounter unexpected inhabitants: a group of outspoken droids and the infamous Harra the Hutt. Harra might be able to help Dec and Sari save their friends, but bargaining with a Hutt rarely goes as planned. These wannabe Resistance heroes will need quick thinking and even quicker moves if they are going to survive!

Join the Resistance: Attack on Starkiller Base, Book 3

If you want to be a hero...try being a friend first.

J-Squadron would be flying away from a First Order ship, not toward one. But this ship has their friend and squad mate Jo Jerjerrod aboard as a prisoner, and J-Squadron won't stop until Jo is safely back with the Resistance. Their pursuit takes them to Starkiller Base, a planet that has been turned into a headquarters for the First Order - and a weapon capable of destroying entire star systems. Mattis and his friends need to rescue Jo and get off-planet as fast as they can so they can warn the Resistance about the secret base...but will they be able to stop squabbling among themselves? If there was ever a time for the members of J-Squadron to step up and become heroes, this is it!

Strong Ending

The middle act was a little mundane but the 3rd book was excellent. Very entertaining and the characters were all memorable.

Adult? Skip this one.

This one was pretty tough to get through. The guy narrating didn’t use different enough voices and Star Wars books without music are surprisingly hard to follow. A lot of times, I couldn’t tell if we were in the middle of action or not. Maybe this is a good book for kids, but it really adds nothing to the overall Star Wars canon. I vote skip it.

Great Story, Performance, Not So Much

I thought the writing was great and the book is awesome, but the narrator doesn't put as much effort or feeling into it as many other Star Wars books I've listened to.

Not bad at all.

Not a bad part of the new SW cannon. Narration's alright, though more sound effects could make things more interesting, not to mention music.

great series!

the three books together are great, they are more like parts of 1 book rather then 3 different stories but its grand ties in with aftermath really well.
the narrator was great but couldn't nail down the clipped accent of the storm troopers and first order officers.

Attention Adults: YES - these ARE the stories you’ve been looking for... for YOU! :)

In case it helps you decide... I’m an adult female who (regrettably) couldn’t have children, so, I purchase my reading solely for my own grown up enjoyment. My audible library and bookshelves are full of Star Wars stories and series - from the serious, more intense “adult” fare to the lighter, less cerebral “junior” works. If it’s out of print, I’ve probably hunted it down and bought it over the years.

This three book collection is, in a word, WONDERFUL. I caught myself smiling A LOT, laughed out loud, my heart raced, and even shed tears more than once. It’s all there.

For adults, the magic of these stories is what makes movies like “Toy Story” work. Kids enjoy it because to them it’s never boring, while adults can enjoy it as much or more because it appreciates our deeper understanding and knowledge of life - both real and in a Galaxy far, far away. Where a kid laughs because it’s funny, the adult will laugh because we know how a certain phrase or event ties into something comical that happened in a movie from 40, 20 or 5 years ago. Where a child thinks something is interesting, the adult will feel angst or excitement knowing that things far beyond a child’s comprehension are happening behind the scenes.

I purchased this in 2018, but didn’t listen because so many other SW books have been released and I tend to gravitate toward older series if given a choice. But I enjoyed this as much if not more than nearly every SW book that’s been released in the past decade.
